So we continue our trek through the CalPERS database of public retirees today with two more OC agencies - which have a hefty 60 retirees who get pensions greater than $100,000 a year.
In general, the most well-paid retirees have been public safety types - police and fire chiefs, followed by city manager types. Most are men.
The cities we look at today follow suit. They are:
- Newport Beach, which has 38 (the top dog being former police chief Robert McDonell, $221,554.56)
- Orange, which has 22 (former city manager David Rudat, $162,312.84 )
This brings total membership in the local CalPERS $100,000-plus pension club to 260, from 16 different public agencies. We still have almost a dozen to go. See full lists, links to previous stories and standard disclaimer below.

- DOUGLAS MOCHIZUKI $107,398.80
- FOREST STATON $102,006.36
And here are our regular disclaimers:
- We know that the number of public retirees in the $100,000-plus club — 6,133— is just a tiny fraction of those in CalPERS.
- We know that the average CalPERS pensioner collects just $15,948 a year.
- We know that many public employees pay into their retirement funds — but that many cities and special districts pay the employee contribution, as well as the employer contribution.
- But we also know that some public agencies still want to increase retirement benefits — and thus, the number of people in the $100,000-plus club — at the very time that CalPERS’ investments are tanking, and when CalPERS’ own eggheads say that the system is unsustainable.
- Who will be on the hook to pay those generous pensions if the money’s not there? The taxpayers.
- Once those generous pension benefits are granted, undoing them is virtually impossible — as Orange County’s $2 million legal battle to do just that illustrates.

well said yessup– after reading the ocr’s caveats below this article I wonder why they bother to run the piece— slow news month?

Congrats to all these retirees– I see many of them are well known public service leaders and chief officers……..they deserve this pension. Let the blogging from the unemployed whiners begin! Type away trolls!
Tom, seems like you care about people. They deserve something but not that much. Just like you they don’t care about others…just themselves. Hope nothing bites you in the as# down the road! Good luck!
Thanks I appreciate that– me too—- I think the pensions for future folks will get adjusted downward as it has several times before…and of course the econ will return. Hey— Calpers has recovered 43% of the 08 losses—- so— good on them! It will all work out in the end—–Luckily I also saved about every buck I ever made in otgher ways too– I hope everyone has that ethos… peace!

Tom, please educate youself on pension fund liabilities-it doesn’t matter how much funding they currently have-it is how much they currenlty have MINUS their liabilities.
Calpers is funded at $200 billion, which is 64% of the FULL FUNDING level for liabilities-which are $310-$320 Billion. Calpers is condisered in “critical” condition. Death comes after critical.
Pensions with less than 80 percent of the assets needed to cover present and projected liabilities are considered “endangered,” while those below 65 percent are classified as “critical” under the Pension Protection Act of 2006.
Tommy is correct actually—- blazey boy as always misses the point. The unfunded liability is always there like your mortgage till you pqay it off dumbell. CALPERS paid out 11b last year and took in 10b from investment and contribution..– it was a bad year and they have had way more good years than bad— but with 200b and building they could do this for a VERY long time——- god thesae trolls have gotta make you smile—– blog on surfpuppy aka troll aka blazey boy…

OMG are you stoopid!, You are obviously one of the GED educated gov trough feeders Oscar!
The unfunded liability level is the level of the funds HEALTH you moron, and that determines if the fund can CONTINUE.
Please lay off the crack pipe Oscar- and grow a few brain cells, then go read up on the Pension Protection Act of 2006-it was put into place to PROTECT pension funds from the dangers of mental morons like you Oscar!
What they fail to mention is one of the former city of Orange employees contracted cancer because of a meth lab. One of the dangers of the job. If you think they don’t deserve the money for everything they do then you go out, put on a vest, carry a gun and protect the citizens for free! I’m sick of the people out here on their high horses. Maybe you should do some research on how much PERS actually pays out on average before officers die of illnesses directly related to the law enforcement profession.
Just when you think it can’t get anymore nauseating! Robert McDonnell’s pension is a grotesque $221.554.56! A police chief that worked in one of the wealthiest cities in CA., a measely population of 75k, who rarely has crime due to low poverty rates. Talk about the gravy train.
Where is that idiot ocobserver - he must be sleeping in. Nice pension numbers. Obviously Newport Beach has the resources to compensate their pensioners well.
Man oh man! Newport Beach and Orange are full of gobblement trough feeders, eh??
I guess when they land that fat pension the first thing they do is sell the house and run for the beach!!! hah!
Teri, is it possible to learn the former positions of these trough feeders so we know what they did to deserve such a lofty payout at the age of 50 or 55 for the rest of their natural lives???
I want to know if there are any GED grads in the group too! Can we learn their highest level of education?? Of course other than having an advanced degree in public ripoffs???
Thanks for exposing these rascals, Teri. You are the best investigative reporter now at the OCR by far!!! Teri Horne should give you a 20% pay raise even in these bad economic times. If you’re going to report the shenanigans going on with these public trough feeders at least you should be paid like one!!!
No women??
Thanks for pointing that out, CC.
NOT ONE FEMALE!!!!
HAH!
What an equal opportunity bunch they are, eh???
And don’t feed us that BS that women haven’t been in the workforce long enough to rise to the top.
America has been a two income household nation for over 30 years!!!
HAH!
It’s a good ‘ol boys clubs. That’s for sure!!!!
Yes, but women were scarce in the upper ranks 20-30 years ago, especially in law enforcement. And this was probably less prevalent in the public sector than in the private sector, where women on average still get less pay for comparable work.
That’s a lie, 45yrs.
You didn’t have to be in the UPPER RANKS 20-30 years ago to be a big fat pension recipient. Women were ABUNDANT in the workforce 30 years ago. ABUNDANT. Most household were TWO INCOME households at that time (1980). And you didn’t have to be in the UPPER RANKS 30 years ago to be in the $100k plus club. You just needed to be an employee who was promoted. Get your facts straight and stop the SPIN. We’ll call you on it every single time. You are nothing but a spinmeister running interference the GOOD ‘OL BOYS CLUB!!!
somewhat true, these are retirees. it would be different if you looked at a list of future retirees. and this is only two cities. I promise Sheriff Sandra isn’t the only lady making mad bank off a past job.

damn MJ’s dead and he’s still collecting 110 grand a year in N.B. must be nice!
All these guys deserve these pensions…. do you know how hard they work??? Everyone knows how hard government employees work and all of that overtime they put in that they don’t get compensated for…..
I have had close relatives work in gobblement. I know how hard they work. (hah). The stories they tell are mind-blowing. Especially the part about the gobblement managers making the rounds at the end of the fiscal years and urging their workers to find some way to spend the rest of the remaining budget so that they can ask for a bigger budget in the next fiscal year. hah. That’s what happens when you play with other people’s money. You try to figure out ways to waste it so you can get more next year. This stuff gets out, Uncle Ben. You don’t have a closed society, buddy. We know how you play the game. There is no incentive to work hard in the gobblement. Your job is ironclad after you’ve completed probation. And if you’re incompetent they either transfer you to another department or promote you. All you need to do is show up to work once in awhile and snuggle up to the boss to guarantee a $100k plus pension. We know how it works, Uncle Ben. It’s the secret that everybody knows.
WELL OBSERVER, i have family and many friends including neighbors that work in the private sector that are doing great!! in fact many of them always state they could not live off a govt paycheck, hah. they must have really chosen the right career path for them and that’s why they are not bitter, unlike YOU!! since you like to through out the I KNOW SOMEONE reference. well again GOOD LUCK OCO,HAH…..
I am not bitter about anyone who gets a fair wage based on their true value.
I just like to point out the HUGE inequity of what gobblement workers get in the american workplace. The only reason you get a $200000 comp package is because your dirty unions strongarm the politicians into stealing our taxdollars so you can grocery shop, work out at the gym, play video games and sleep on our dime! hah! You might see a car fire on the freeway once every 2 weeks. And when we get hit with a wildfire the county loses 300 homes with you clowns driving past homes ablaze in your nice shiny trucks while the homeowner is trying to save it with a gardenhose! hah! For that we pay you $200000 a year!!! hah!
Artificially high salaries, pensions, benefits and job security. All bases are covered. The title “public servant” is the most ludicrous phrase known to mankind. Talk about an ocyMORON! And I emphasize “MORON”.
ocobserver,
I’d be surprised if those that retired with $100K or more were union memners when they retired. They would all have had a salary in excess of $100K per year and there are few if any union jobs at that pay level in local government. I expect most if not all of these folks were executives that likely established their own benefit packages.
But as a non-union, exempt public employee I have to admit that some of these unions need to wake up and smell the coffee, especially those that are still trying to negotiate raises and additional benefits during the current economic climate. What they should be doing is negotiating reasonable cutbacks and pressuring management to share the pain by enacting similar cutbacks for themselves.
“I’d be surprised if those that retired with $100K or more were union memners when they retired. not entirely true, these are not all administrators & execs in our county gov’t, some are public safety employees who make 90-100% of their last year salary.

LET START TO ASK THEM WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN DONE FOR TAX PAYERS IN THEIR CAREER. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY DESERVE THIS HIGH PAY AT THE RETIREMENT AGE.
maybe saved some lives? Hmmm—- risked thier lives every day? hmmmmmm
wash the truck. wax the truck. wash the truck. wax the truck. go to the supermarket. shine the pole. wash the truck. wash the dog. wax the truck. cook dinner.
and after dinner they must’ve saved my Dad— which I will remain eternally grateful for. I didn’t get slouchy gobblenators– I got the two best paramedics I had ever seen. They had great reps. From what I could see they pulled my Pop back out of a full cardiac arrest. That had great value to me andf my family. There is nothing you can do to take my gratitude away from me.
hey teri can you list all the public retirees in these cities that do not receive 100k pensions. oh that would really require you to do some work since there are probably thousands! anyway these are high ranking chiefs that are responsible for very wealthy cities so the pensions really seem fair and newport has the means to pay them. like the facts state.
“We know that the number of public retirees in the $100,000-plus club — 6,133— is just a tiny fraction of those in CalPERS. ” since there are 477,000 calpers retirees! yet those not in this 1% data would not generate the hateful anti public employee agenda you so desire!!! the ocr must really be desperate having this kind of garbage reporting.hah.
If she listed all the 15k-20k retirees it would be too dull of a stroy— the ocr thinks this is journalism…..I guess
That is what you union folks DO NOT GET! Just because the money is there, doesn’t mean you USE it. Your pay should be based on merit. Why do you think the auto industry failed? Paying assembly line workers $45 hr + benefits, that is why. Same thing with the grocer unions. Unions were put in place to make sure workers earned a FAIR WAGE in safe conditions, NOT to be exempt from market value. Ntheoc, I am sure you are intelligent enough not to go buy a car for 80k when it’s worth 40k just because you have the means. Sheesh is this how you folks think?
“Based on merit?” Running a police department doesn’t have any merit to it? Serving your community has no merit to it?
This is nothing but more disgusting witch-hunting on behalf of some self-described libertarians who want any excuse to avoid paying their fair share to the society that let them operate how they do.
well said Mike and that’s the point— these troll rascals out here are generally typical disgrunts….. based on the recorded comments they have made again and again they have zero respect for the public servant—–zero…… this in turn of course gives them zero cred.

I think some of you clowns need soem prozac, the wild claism you make are just crazy/
Hey— Those Police Chiefs don’t have ged’s man— those folks all have big time degrees—- you can advocate your point Mr. Troll but you lost your credibility out here with all your half truths—- it’s pretty old.
Actually my conservative pals think I’m quite the liberal.
So here’s how hard, fair share and meritable it is to to earn a million every 4 years from the taxpayer. First, the chief has top heavy assistance with his Lt. and Sgts. and all those other heads. But to be generously fair, let’s take the busiest month of July (when all those partiers come to town) NB had reported 767 crimes. Most likely, a huge bulk over the 4th of July. That avgs. to about 25 calls a day. Now lets say they’re are 10 patrol officers on duty , that averages 2.5 calls a day for 8 hours work and don’t forget all the OT that goes to the paying the fair share ones. But let’s say they are on a tight budget and only have 5 officers; they are taking a whopping 5 calls a day. So basically what you believe is; there should be a millionaires club for dressing sharp and showing up. Nope, I don’t think the Chief(s) have had to work too hard at all by the looks of it.

That a lie. The number has since been updated. It’s over 9000 now. Time to get current!!!
And with the boomers about to retire that number will explode in the next 10 years.
That’s why the CalPERS actually recently stated that the CalPERS fund is “UNSUSTAINABLE”. And who would know better than him?
“CalPERS began putting away money for the baby boomers the day they first came to work for government. CalPERS plans are prefunded and contributions are received in every year that members accrue their benefits. The retirement of baby boomers has already been reflected in the rates using actuarial assumptions.”
I noticed you used quotation marks (”) in your statement.
Where did you take this quote??? Let me guess —- The CalPERS website, right??? hah.
Weren’t they the same ones who spun the public statement of the CalPERS actuary that the CalPERS fund is “unsustainable”??? Yeah, that’s what I thought. HAH.
And whom are we to believe??? You or the CalPERS spinmeisters or the CalPERS actuary who broke down and told the truth. After all, the CalPERS actuary is the very one who KNOWS INSIDE OUT the risk of the CalPERS fund. That is HIS JOB!!!! hah!
You people really have to grasp for straws, doncha??? More LIES after the fact. What more could be expected from ‘public servants’??? HAH!

Wait OCOBS - a few months ago you said we could not trust ANYTHING from PERS!! I see what you meant to say was that we can not trust any POSITIVE news from PERS, yes? Time to be held accountable for what you say ocobs. Cover those short shares of Ford yet? How much did you lose? lol

Of course these figures would not help their cause any and some of these folks wouldn’t find any room to complain! Some how the OCR has determined 100K is the magic number and anyone making over that amount is a villian. I would like to know who appointed the OCR as the pay czar and how did they just magically derive this figure?
So yes, please post all the salaries from all the OC agencies OCR, we would love to see that! While your at it please post all your retiree salaries and show us how much you soak the consumers when charging for ads or subscriptions to your tabloid paper!
Perhaps had the OCR worried about their own finances rather than the ad nauseam “reporting” of this beaten-dead-horse story of everyone elses situation, they wouldn’t be the current guests of bankruptcy court.
don’t shoot the messenger. the county is still spiraling precariously out of control. we are entirely too top-heavy, just like the state gov’t.

Have you done a similar study for Cal-STRS retirees making over $100,000? That may make for some interesting reading also.
We don’t expect anyone outside law enforcement to understand why this job is so unique, stressful, and out right dangerous. We will continue to do our jobs and probably protect many of the idiots on these forums.
It is amazing how even after 20, 25, and 30 years of service that people continue to sit there and gripe about someone’s pension. These Officers, for the most part, have worked their tails off to raise through the ranks and do the things that many other people simply refuse to do.
Have a great retirement Men. We support you and all Law Enforcement.

It is amazing how even after 20, 25, and 30 years of service that people continue to sit there and gripe about someone’s pension. These Officers, for the most part, have worked their tails off to raise through the ranks and do the things that many other people simply refuse to do.

Hahaha…anoither GED educated cop blowing his own horn again.
Thanks “hero”!!!!!! Now beat it.
You are incredibly rude. Someone posts a comment and the only retort you have is to ridicule and demean the person. That is where you lose any and all credibility. You couldn’t post a true honest fact if your life depended on it. Debate the issues is what this forum is for, not to belittle people with an opinion opposite of yours. Get a life!

You made me cry jeff
I think the trough feeders do way more troll flaming than everyone else put together.
BTW- cop is a GED job-that is a true fact-go to the P.O.S.T. website and see for yourself. Or ask out former OC Sheriff Galinsky.
Read on the pension reform website and looked at the proposed pension formulas. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t feel too safe knowing a 60 year old cop is patrolling the streets. Can you imagine an old man chasing a 22 year old, jumping fences and climbing roof tops. Or a 58 year old firefighter trying to hook up a hose to a hydrant? Very scary.
I am the old guy reporting parking violations in El Modena because I have no life.
A 60 year old cop wouldn’t have to patrol the streets. He could clean grafitti on walls and public restrooms. Or is he too good for that?? hah.
A 58 year old FF could inspect businesses for fire hazards or clean the hose after a fire. No reason to retire at that young age.
No reason to retire that young and scam the system.
In all honesty, I couldn’t be a police officer. There would be a flood of civil judgement against me from the ACLU etc., because I do not like minorities. I would be the one on the you tube video beating up the black man. Besides, I live in south OC, the crime capital of the world. No way in hell will I be able to chase a guy in a back alley in Inglewood at two in the morning and risk getting ambushed by the East Wood crips.
I ask this. I wonder if the widows and children of the 4 dead Oakland PD officers are still getting their spouses’ pensions. What a sham. No way should my tax dollars go to support families of fallen officers. OCR, you need to look into this.
What about that oakland cop who executed the poor kid at the train station as he had him proned down on the walkway??? Shot him square in the back. Should he get his pension??? Thank god for phone videos. Otherwise the cop would have walked. He would have said the kid reached for his waistband.
Oh btw. That cop is being tried in L.A. due to change fo venue. Let’s see how that works out???
Oh, btw, the imposter who stole my moniker and talked about the families of the slain Oakland PD officers is a FAKE Ocobserver.
He has to steal my moniker to make me look bad.
Teri Sforza, you should ban people who steal other poster’s monikers.
I certainly agree with you here. Someone has stolen my handle on the Topix forums and I have reported it multiple times. I had been of the opinion that once you are registered, no one else could use your handle. What an eye-opener. I think the reply I just made about the Oakland officers what made to the fake you. Sorry.
ocobserver you are a real fake, nobody wants to be you.
If their respective entities contracted with the pension plan for survivor benefits they will. So what would you care–such contract entered into requires increased payments to sustain the plan.
If I die prior to my spouse, my spouse will continue to receive my pension until my spouse dies. I gave up 11% off the top of my pension to set it up that way. There are several options for each pensioner, and each option is geared to a certain cost. I’m sure you will think that is outrageous too.
You don’t have a clue about how pension plans work. You seem to be conveying that the public in general should believe everthing you, an anonymous blogger, says, but they should not believe a word that is put out by CalPERS. Your attitude is, in itself, outrageous.
Mr. ocobserver IMPOSTER,
I missed question #39 (Would you be willing to lie and cover up for your partner?) and #45 (Would you report the department if it was stealing from the taxpayer?). hah. Otherwise I maxed it out. hah. As a result the oral board told me I was too honest to wear a badge! hah!
Put that in your holster and smoke it, Mr. Imposter!!! hah!
I’m a Police Officer in Orange County and I still have 22 years before I can collect my CalPers retirement pension. For tax purposes, I guess I’m considered “wealthy”.. I make between $80-90k a year and the government takes 30% of my income. I own a home and I drive a nice car. I paid for a BS degree by taking out student loans. I wasn’t eligible for any assistance. I’m also paying for a masters degree out of pocket.
I’ve worked 12 hour graveyard shifts on the weekends for many years. I’ve been shot at, fought with people, spit on, and called every name in the book. I’m away from my family on Christmas and other holidays.
If I retire at 50 I’ll collect about 75% of my salary. Thankfully I’ve been contributing to my own retirement fund so that will supplement my income.
I’m proud of what I do and wouldn’t change it for a thing.

OC Officer-I have not known ANY gov LE agency to NOT pay for college tuition, fees and expenses-which makes me think you’re a flame.
But if you’re on the level then props to you. But when you make claims of being “shot at” in OC, my BS detector starts going up.
And for the record, NO ONE in the real world working and entry level, front line job which requires nothing more than a GED-jobs much more dangerous than yours-make anything near what you make or get to “retire” at age 50 with 75-90% of their highest years pay-so stop whining.
Johnny Blaze.. $1000 per year of tuition reimbursement doesn’t do much. My Bachelors degree was prior to my LE career. You question the fact that I was shot at in Orange County? You obviously have no idea of the dangers of law enforcement. You must think OC law enforcement is like a Disneyland security job.. Wake up.
In regards to education, wake up again. Law enforcement wants more from their employees than GED education. That is a thing of the past. Some agencies will not even consider you for employment unless you have a minimum of an AA.
My current salary is NOT entry level and it includes incentives for being educated. Not sure why you consider my post “whining” .. I work hard and I’m proud of what I do. I am furthering my education to be a better person and to provide a higher quality service to my employer and its citizens.
well said officer—- this is the kind of employee we all support— good on ya!!!

Most LE pays for everything for schooling-but I don’t know where you work, so I’ll take the $1,000 a year at face value.
As for the AA requirement, I know if a HANDFUL of SMALL LE agencies that require an AA, and they account for probably less than 1% of hires. ALL the big agencies, the ones who account for the majority of LE hiring only require a GED-and OC Sheriff Galisnky had just that, a GED.
Once again, I’m not going to slam you, because you seem on the level, and not making many of the flat out bogus clams that almost all the others do here.
Carry on
HEY OC OFFICER:
Your the one that chose that field, if was up to me you wouldn’t get shyte after you retire from the state.
75% of your salary……thats robbery. You and your coworkers are the reason why CA. can’t pay the bills. 80-90k per year thats also too much for what you guys do.
SO QUIT COMPLAINING
I don’t recall me complaining one bit in my posts. Would you rather have a GED educated person patrolling your neighborhood? How about a cop who makes $40,000 a year.. What kind of employees do you think that would attract?
Why don’t you become a police officer CarGuy? You might like the work. Maybe the work will challenge you to improve yourself too.

Rick,
Oh, so TWO WOMEN out of 220 $100000 plus gobblement pension trough feeders???
HAHAHAH!!!
Thanks for pointing that out you chauvenist!!!!
What a sexist local gobblement we have!!!
I THOUGHT THE GOBBLEMENT WAS ALL ABOUT EQUALITY????
Apparently not!!!!
The government workers that post on here are on a par with the crazy children in the book “Lord of the Flies.”
As for Thundermaker, he stated that there is “no spiking in public pensions”, to which I pointed out that he was either lying or just ignorant of the truth. He is nothing but a GWU cult follower.
Children, you had better pull your heads out, because reality is coming on fast.
The gimmicks and tricks that the state used to balance the budget this year will not wourk next year.
I have the solution: cut pay by 30% for all government labor, cut benefits 50% for all GWU employee’s, and cut all current pensions over $50,000 by 60% all pensions $50,000 and less would remain unchanged. Also all COLA’s would be curtailed.
zzzzzzzzzz dinkey try harder please…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Donkey - you have yet to prove that PERS allows spiking of pensions. You and your chicken little buddy ocobs keep telling us the sky is falling but you simply must not watch the financial indicators or the markets.
IF my local government asks for more taxes to pay wages and retirement I will have an issue with how much is being made. Otherwise I am fine with it. These people have served us well. School teachers get low pay and work long hours - the least they can get is a good retirement. Our public servants deserve compensation and I am willing to pay it.
I am also willing to pay a reasonable amount of compensation but I am not willing to be robbed, have my roads, water system, parks and pretty much everything that the taxpayers are supposed to recieve in the way of infastructure cast aside while the $100,000 plus retired government workers recieve $10,000 a month plus checks for the rest of their lives.
As to your lies about spiking, I gave you the list right off the Calpers web site and never herd from you about the list.
Pension Spiking does take place and is a dishonest and thieving practice that cleaver the GWU put in place to steal more taxpayer dollars.
Your list was NOT from the CalPers web site. The list included taking a medical retirement which for instance is NOT spiking. It does not change the amount PERS pays out, only the taxes that are paid on it.
Like I have said many times before, this is not our first rodeo. The exact same thing happened in 1991 and PERS took a huge hit. By 2000 they were superfunded. They invest heavy in the market and the fund will go up and down. As long as the fluctuations are budgeted for and no budget increase is needed I am OK with it. I’m sure you were ok with it in the early 2000’s when local governments paid NOTHING to the retirement system, yes?
thunder wrote,

you just caught them off guard thunder!! they knew nothing about the fact that millions were given back to local gov’t and nothing was paid into pers from gov’t during those times… i wonder why the ocr did not report about that fact at the time ,hmmmm!!! i know why actually.

Teri Sforza,
BE SURE TO POINT OUT HOW MANY WOMEN ARE INCLUDED IN THE 260 TROUGH FEEDERS COLLECTING $100000 PLUS PENSIONS!!! YOU WOMEN SHOULD MARCH ON LOCAL GOBBLEMENT IN PROTEST!!!
So far I have counted 2 women in a group of 220. That’s less than 2% when women make up the MAJORITY of our population!!!!
THERE’S A STORY THERE, TERI!!! DON’T LET THEM EXPLOIT YOUR SISTERS!!!!
oh god the pandering……zzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzz
Not pandering at all. If certain races were excluded from the big money guys there would be hell to pay. Women have just as much right to the $100000 plus pensions as men do. Why do women only account for less that 2% of all the trough feeders??? Somebody should look into it. Obviously, it’s blatant DISCRIMINATION. I thought DISCRIMINATION was not allowed in gobblement???? hah!
NO WONDER WHY CALIFORNIA IS GOING BELLY UP!!!
This needs to stop now, that is way too much. Who approved such a thing?? the actual people who are getting these large sums of money.
THATS WHO!!! SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP IN AND REDUCE THESE AMOUNTS!!!!
As long as they include the dates (start/end) of their reapective careers and their date of retirement, I’m OK with that. But to expect women to be represented in upper executive positions even 20 years ago is unrealistic. That would require that they had started in a position with a career path ( as opposed to a clerical or similar position) in the 60’s or 70’s. And I can tell you that in the early 70’s, that was NOT the case. Women were still being “discouraged” or even blocked from those positions that could lead to the $200K jobs and eventually a $100K or higher pension.
But I doubt that ocobserver will let any pesky little facts get in the way of a good rant.

Grandma, I assume you are a lady.
Don’t you find it disconcerting that less than 2% of these $100k plus gobblement pension recipients are women when your gender makes up about 51% of the population??? Women have been ingrained in the american workplace for a good 40-45 years. Why weren’t you allowed to participate in feeding from the magic gobblement trough??? Do you enjoy being 2nd class citizens???
No it does not bother me at all—- times have changed for the better for us– we are all not feminazis…you are the queen of red herrings….and a troll— zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz please say anything new…..dimwit
It’s a beautiful outside. Rather than sitting in your den with the blinds closed, let’s go out and play.
To the poster who mentioned that OC cops are not disneyland security, that was comical.
Sorry, I meant to say ‘It’s a beautiful day outside’
I wouldn’t worry too much about the unions fighting to keep the pension formula the same. The current members and retirees will still continue to get their fat pension. They could care less if new hires get a lower pension.
OCobserver…. ironic from a guy in an earlier blog who stated he fills out the ballot for his wife.
You’re a liar.
I never said that I fill out my wife’s ballot.
Post the quote or forever own be a liar.
And naturally you won’t address the FACT that only 2% or less of the gobblement workers participating in the $100k PLUS feeding frenzy are women when they make up 51% of the population, huh??
No, you will sidestep that FACT and attack the messenger again.
HAH! I read you like a book!!!
Oh but you did Oc… You stated your wife hands it to you and you fill it out. It was a former blog on an article relating to OC County firefighter salaries (OT). That’s the thing about you OCobserver… you change statistics, you change statements, you change time-tables whenever it suits you. You tear down good people who are truly risking their lives for society, just to support your own twisted agenda. If anyone is a liar here I’m afraid it’s you. You are right about one thing though Ocobs…A day of reckoning is indeed coming…. karma will have its day… and the day of reckoning will be yours. Remember that when it comes

Very curious here about Ocobserver… here’s the article I recall him saying that he voted for his wife in…
http://www.ocregister.com/news/overtime-189762-firefighters-fire.html
and I can see people responding to ocobserver’s many posts, naming him by name… however, none of ocobserver’s posts are there. They’ve all been erased. Now why would they all be erased. Look for yourself if you care to… every one of his posts have been erased… though I can still see the posts of those talking to him. That’s very curious isn’t it. Can anyone erase their posts? Or does one need administrative access to do so? As I said, clearly people are talking to him on the thread…. but none of his posts are visible. I can’t believe I actually wasted my time to look this gomer up.
Can anyone erase their posts? Or does one need administrative access to do so?
===============================
On *this* board only the Admin can erase posts.
Maybe OCO caught you in a lie Yousuck, and you are now busted?
Or maybe OCO is really one of the Admins here-who knows.
Lemme get this right…. All of Ocobserver’s posts are erased on a thread where he made a statement undermining a statement on here… and he caught me in a lie? All his posts are erased…. hmmm… Then you go on to admit that “On *this* board only the Admin can erase posts.” So… we are left with one of two conclusions. Either ocobs entire thread chain was erased because the OCR thought he was that ludicrous (doubtful as they are fairly ludicrous themselves), or… he’s an administrator on this site… literally spicing his own pseudo-paper’s blogs and trying to keep controversy… anything…. going. Either way… doesn’t make Ocobserver look good at all.
So…. with Johnny vegas baby (or whatever he’s changed his handle to this week) admitting that Ocobserver may well be an administrator on this site (and someone sure as hell erased an entire thread of his posts for some dang reason)… hmmmm….. this guy works for this publication and is trying to inflame the blog to keep it going????

Ocobserver…. your concern that I’d somehow come to Orange County (or anywhere) to find you is woefully mistaken. My comment that you will have a day of reckoning has NOTHING to do with retribution by anyone on these blogs, or anyone associated with labor groups. Rather, I am suggesting that your attacks on good people are calculated acts of maliciousness to support your own twisted and extremist political agendas. I certainly don’t wish harm to you at all, but I think people who spread such hatred, are a cancer unto themselves. That’s the day of reckoning I fear you are going to face. It has NOTHING to do with me or anyone else… just you ocobserver. Just you.
LOL that was a choice one—- my god you own this troll!
Here’s the approach ocobserver and donkey are proposing. Screww the working class and make the rich even richer at the workers’ expense.
***************************************************************************
From US News and World Report:
Some executives have received huge compensation packages even as their firms eliminated worker pensions. Ten large U.S. companies paid senior executives a total of $350 million in the 5 years leading up to terminating traditional pension plans for employees, a new Government Accountability Office analysis found.
Each company in the study, which does not name the 10 publicly traded companies that filed for bankruptcy in the last decade, had underfunded its pension plan by at least $100 million and had over 5,000 workers whose pensions would be affected. The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, the government agency that insures private sector pensions, then became responsible for the shortfall. Some employees who were promised retirement benefits above the PBGC’s limits, such as airline pilots, say their pensions were reduced. The PBGC insures pensions up to certain limits, which is $54,000 for a person who retires at age 65 in 2010. The pension insurer had a deficit of $22 billion in fiscal year 2009.
***************************************************************************
Yep, they’d rather see a few executives living large while running their companies into the toilet, while sticking it to the taxpayers, than see decent, working class folks have a reasonable retirement package.
And I’ll bet these same companies “urged” that their employees fill up their 401K’s with company stock, which subsequently became worthless after the companies went bankrupt.
You have that correst 45yrsinoc—- these trolls are dull-normal….they have no regard for the working class or they would’t continually lie about the average calpers pension—which is under 20k!- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz these guys have nothing new…..
45yrsinoc, put down your crack pipe and quit imangining things.
No one opposed to the “excessive” public pensions is out to get the middle class worker. In fact it is for the middle class worker that we are taking a stand against the obscene amounts the newer public pensioners are drawing.
The cost of this new wave of public retiree’s will be a far greater burden on the middle class private worker than any other outside force because of inceased fees and taxes to cover the hundreds of billions in non-funded liability of the Pensions and Health care.
For a dude that likes to brag about your degree so much you write like an idiot, putz.
Ted Steele says:

The AVERAGE Calpers pension is NOT under $20K trough feeder;
Rob Feckner, president of the California Public Employees Retirement System Board;
He said …. “that the average pension is just $25,000″
That was from the president of Calpers, not some low life trough feeder named “Ted Steele”………
Funny, the OCR Watchdog reports it to be just under $16K.
****************************************************************************
“And here are our regular disclaimers:
We know that the number of public retirees in the $100,000-plus club — 6,133— is just a tiny fraction of those in CalPERS.
We know that the average CalPERS pensioner collects just $15,948 a year. ”

45, that is the average going back 50 years, if you used the average for the last 10 years it is double that amount.
The ONLY thing that keeps it that low right now is that the 3%@50 trough feeders have only been kicking in the last 2-9 years. Once those pensions start kickiing up, that $25K ($50K+ the last 10 years) grows exponentially.

Errrr…..”Ted Steele”, and 45, please hit the link to the Sacbee column that is now posted by me-in that article Calpers Preseident listed the AVERAGE Calpers pension as just under $25K (see ^^ Above^^, that was a direct quote right out of the article). Now listen, I didn’t say that, not MY words- they are the words of Rob Fleckner as Calpers President.
You Junior Einsteins need to figure oput the difference between the “average” (mean) and the “median” (50% divider).
OK, that is game, set and match!
Be sure to tip your waitress on the way out.
Even the PRESIDENT of Calpers said that the multi million dollar 3%@50 pensions need to be reversed;
But Feckner did make one unexpected statement. “I think when you’re looking at the $100,000 club, it’s something that needs to be looked at. I don’t think the fund was set up to look at someone retiring with that kind of benefit.”
There you have it trough feeders-the 3%@50 scam-not set up for “that kind of benefit”.
BOOM!

Now “Ted”, tell us what the MEAN pesnion is for the last 10 years-which reflects the 3%@50 problems.

Ted Steele says:

Ted, if the pension is 90% of LAST years pay then “their” pay is going to be about 50% ABOVE “career” pay (total pay over career divided by # of years worked).
Did you ever take MATH in High School?
oh my god it is hard to beleave you are serious? You’re kidding, right?

——————-
Errr….are you the same person that said the AVERAGE Calpers pension was $15K????????????????????/
BOOM!
Johnny,
Be nice to Ted. He’s a little slow. Going through remedial math 7 times ain’t easy. The teacher finally gave him a ‘pass’ before retiring from the school district. He was so happy to get that CalStrs pension that he even gave Teddy a ‘pass’. hah.
I can’t believe you are still publishing this crap. It’s a good thing I only pay 75 cents a week for my newpaper subscription.
Why don’t you start publishing all the financial firm bonuses and pay- outs again??? Then maybe you’ll leave these poor people alone.
I think police, firefighters, teachers, etc. deserve more than this for all they do. But instead of getting thanks, they get this crap thrown in their face.
I can’t believe you would have the nerve to publish this… why don’t you give out their addresses, maybe social security numbers while your at it???
Good idea to give out the SS number. In that way it will be easy to hunt down the thieves and demand they repay the taxes they have stolen over the years.
No government worker should be recieving over $50,000 a year and none should be recieving COLA’s either.

Donkey, $50K-$60K BASE per year would be good for FF’s, because of all the copious amounts of built in OT.
With a BASE of $50K-$60K and OT, FF’s could still crack the $75K-$100K mark easily.
I would raise retirement age to 62-66 (like SS), and would cap pensions at 50%-60% of highest average of the last 3 years of base salary.
These jobs pay as much, and more, at this rate, as any private sector job does with similar requirements (like construction, and other semi skilled labor).
Still a really good deal.

You betcha, Johnny. Even at that wage if I were the HR of OCFA I could still get 700-1000 apps per open position and fill the jobs with better quality folks than they have now. But they have to go to the grade school and hand out candy to the kids to build up the hero image as a PR plo to justify the $200k comp packages!! hah. What a taxpayer ripoff!!! Waving the flag with one hand while fishing deep in your pockets with the other!!! And they think we haven’t caught on yet!!! hah!
there we go– donkey (well, ass) just owned himself! He wants the register to facilitate the “hunting down” of pensioners. God this is aimed well at the scarey dull-normal ocr reader, or should I say someone reads it to them?
Extremist nuts Ted… the saving grace is most of them are utterly inept cowards. That said, a Seattle police officer was recently killed by an extremist nutjob who had also firebombed police vehicles and set ambush explosives to take out arriving fire trucks (his ambush explosives didn’t work). This wackjob, deluded by anti-government/anti-public employee chunder then ambushes and shoots/kills a Seattle PD officer (father of two) and wounds a second one. In Seattle they referred to it as domestic terrorism. OCR is now supplying names to make it easier and Donkey is encouraging a “hunt down” mentality?

Major meltdown from “Ted Steele”
It’s “shred” you moron… and I stated the threat very clearly… The loss of that Seattle police officer is NO laughing matter you prick
I cannot believe you just made the death of a Seattle police officer a laughing matter…. I’m gonna take a big breath here… because what I want to tell you right now…… well… let’s put it this way you little nub…. you are not worth the time
Yousuck is a hoot, ain’t he Johnny??? HAH!
Trying to connect putting names of trough feeders in the newspaper with domestic terrorism!!!
LIke I said, yousuck will stop at nothing to halt free speech. He would love to have us jailed for telling the truth on-line!!! hah! What a goofball he is!!!
Next he will want hate crime charges brought up on any taxpayer who questions the public trough feeders salaries, pensions, benefits or bullet-proof job security!!! hah!!
Yousuck should be Obama’s czar of propoganda ministry. He would fit in like hand in glove!!! hah!
Contrary to Ocobserver’s fruitless effort to misinterpret my comments regarding the tragic loss of a Seattle Police officer, my point in bringing up this event was NOT to suggest releasing public servant’s names in the newspaper was an act of domestic terrorism. Nor did I say that at all. This is a good indication of what individuals like OCobs, Johnny Blaze and Donkey repeatedly do in these blogs. They consistently misrepresent statements, statistics, and factual realities in a futile effort to bolster their own agenda based extreme Libertarian claims. The reality of my statement was to show an example of how anti-government sentiment became extreme. My concern that fostering such hatred on public blogs “may” have negative implications in imbalanced individuals or groups is my opinion and I freely admit that. Contrary to how ocobserver would like to mislead, I am an advocate of free speech (likely more so than agenda driven individuals like ocobs, donkey and johnny blaze. They claim this precious right only as a tool to belittle others. Just like they have a 1st amendment right to say what they wish in these blogs, I have a 1st amendment right to point out their devious and hurtful nature. Of course they don’t appreciate that… Too bad
No one’s personal information is truly safe is it Donkey… including yours.

Johnny Blaze is really aka, Johnny Vegass, the government employee hater. Between him and the moron of all morons, aka ocobserver, this thread is getting a lot of action.
Moorlachsucks,
you’re a taxpayer hater. you hate any taxpayer who questions $200k comp packages for public trough feeders. you hate free speech too. you want to silence the truth. at heart you are like a citizen of the people’s republic of china. you think the taxpayer should just roll over and shut up. you would like us to face firing squads! hah! those days are gone, kimosabe. we’re here to stay whether you like it or not. we pay your salary and are sick ‘n tired of getting gouged. gobble gobble!
Happy Thanksgiving clown. Don’t eat too much turkey. I’m ok with taxpayer free speech, I just wish you would roll over and shut up. You are a broken record, and I find you semi-entertaining with your spin and propaganda.
moorlachsucks,
as I’m eating my turkey today I will think of you because both of you have so much in common!!! hah!
gobble, gobble!!!
hah!
Funny ocobserver, I didn’t think of you at all.
Johnny Blaze,
Your quote: Hey Junior Einstein, LAPD is the second largest PD in the nation, and the guy that ran it in the 90’s did NOT have a college degree either-google Willie Williams when you get out of bonehead math.
Carry on GED Boy.

Einstein didn’t have a degree either, now what?
