The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California agreed this week to pony up $350 million over the next 25 years to pay for desalinated water in San Diego County.
That money will go to public entities - cities and water districts - to offset the cost of water they’ll buy from a private, yet-to-be-built, desalination plant in Carlsbad. It will be constructed and owned by Poseidon Resources LLC.
Some feel that Met should be funding public efforts to find new water, not private ones. Others worry about the project’s effect on the environment. And still others question Poseidon’s ability to get the job done.
Under no circumstance should a government entity get involved with a private project. The government does not even know what they are getting into, and it will cost the private sector more money, while the executives get a higher pay raise.
The people are getting tired of the government; and someday, there will be revolt.
I am not going to make a moderation, because the private citizen is getting fed up with the government
You do not like my comment? That is just too bad
Look no further than Tampa Bay, which Poseidon screwed over with its desal plant just a few years ago. For that reason alone, MWD should let Poseidon flop in the wind and take over the project after Poseidon pull out.
DFB said it correctly. Poseidon is unreliable, corrupt and should NOT be in charge of the development of any desalination project.
I don’t understand…You people don’t like more government and you don’t want to pay more taxes or pensions. This is privatization.
You can’t have it both ways…
Why on earth would we consider fuding a private enterprise when the cost of tuition is being raised by 30% for lack of funds. Regardless of political affilation nonsense is nonsense.Keep our dollars where we need them.
To repeat DFB’s comments, Poseidon’s technology is unsustainable and has contributed to millions in losses in other communities such as Tampa. The MWD should not fund private enterprises. There are a myriad of other reasons for steering clear of this project.
