“When 10 members of Congress wanted to study climate change, the
y did more than just dip their toes into the subject,” The Wall Street Journal reports. “They went diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. They also rode a cable car through the Australian rain forest, visited a penguin rookery and flew to the South Pole.
“The 11-day trip — with six spouses traveling along as well — took place over New Year’s 2008,” the paper says.
Cost: About half-a-million dollars.
Some went scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef; Sanchez preferred to snorkel, the Journal said.
Global warming? We feel the heat already.

Wow, big surprise, Lorretta Sanchez takes free trips at resort sites under the umbrella if a climate change fact finding trip. Everyone who lives her in OC understands who she is and no one has any illusions about her. She is who she is and will always remain so. She attempts to tell anyone thats she’s a blue dog democrat who is a fiscal conservative but she always folds like an accordion and does as she is told. As a lap dog she gets a few free trips paid by lobbyist so no surprise here.
There is nothing wrong with a little R&R when you are working hard to understand the effects of global warming. I only wish I could have come along and done some recreating…er research, as well.

If they really thought global warming was real, they would not be flying all over the world in planes! If they really thought spending was out of control, they wouldn’t be taking trips that average $100,000 per person.

Study climate change? Unbelievable. What about huddling with scientists and examining the metric tons of data about the topic. I seriously doubt they came away from their trip with anything more than a suntan and sand in their shoes. Junket is right! What benefit is there in sending Congresswoman Sanchez to study global warming. She has no science background and I doubt if she can spell Climatology. Congress should make her reimburse the total cost of the trip to the tax payers.

I have formal education as many Congressmen, however, there are experts who could testify in front of me that could explain what it really happening.

Why should we be surprised since there is no accountability? This will be the last of this we see or hear of this story and nothing will change. Democracy voted her in and Democracy will let her get away with as much as possible. As far as I know none of these politicians are scientists. That should had been the first red flag. Their next trip will be studying the seaweed in the Bahamas and there is nothing the tax payers can or will do. All great societies come and go. I called Sanchez’s office last week to ask the dates of her Town Hall meetings this month. The person who answered the phone at Sanchez’s office said that Sandchez would not have any Town Hall meetings this month…”She would be ‘busy’ with Homeland Security.”
I wonder if Sanchez plans to move back to her husband’s home in L.A. and retake her married name after she loses her re-election next year.

I had a chance to see her on television last night attempting to explain the new health care program. I had to take a deep breath listening to her explanations because I haven’t heard anyone in elected office who can compare with her stupidity. Or as Obama would have said, “She acted stupidly” Attempting to follow her was painful because she has the intellect of a high school dropout.
I called the OC office of Loretta Sanchez. At first her rep said she did not know what I was talking about. She then said I “did not have the facts right” before she hung up on me.

OK, but this trip was a long, long time ago. My question is: Where is Loretta during the CURRENT congressional August recess? That’s what we should have a story about–or maybe a pool where everyone gets to guess what exotic location Loretta has traveled to on the taxpayer’s dime during this break. Unlike most other congresspeople, Loretta is noticeably silent and AWOL on the healthcare townhall circuit. So, WHERE IS OUR CONGRESSWOMAN? South Pole? Argentina? Hiking the Appalachian Trail (like Gov. Sanford)? I think the Register should ask where she is now, at this time of national anguish and decision over healthcare reform.

I wouold like to see her report on what she learned about global warming and what her recommendations are to solve the problem with all the data to back it up, written by her not some staffer. Why did spouses go on this trip, are they experts on global warming?

Changed her name back to Sanchez for the hispanic vote. Never lived in her district, the address she used was her parents rental house and the tenants were told to say her lived there but wasn’t home. The list goes on an on, how does she afford her lifestyle on her salary??? Every years she takes her extended family on trips, one year she rented a villa in Italy. That one trip alone should have wipe out her salary for the whole year. She claim to care about Californian but she never listens to us.
Can we see their written report based on this fact finding mission? I would like to see what it is they saw that they couldnt just read about or research online. I want to see what we, the taxpayers, paid $500,000 for.

I think this Winter they should continue to investigate climate change too. Maybe take a private jet to protect themselves from foul play and spend some time, at tax payer expense because it’s research, and see the effects on cold climates. I’d suggest Aspan, Alps, Whistler, and maybe finish the trip off here in Mammoth. I appreciate the sacrifices that our public officials are willing to take on our behalf. Keep up the good work and I’ll work as hard as I can to produce tax dollars to support the cause.
