
The No. 2 man at a prominent addiction treatment center for women in Costa Mesa sexually harassed patients, berated and belittled staff members and breached other codes of professional conduct, according to a state investigative report.
Maurice Wilson (left), chief operating officer of New Directions for Women, “has accepted his obligation to seek additional professional development,” the report said. He sought additional training for working with traumatized women, and is “undergoing an ongoing mentorship program…(to) gain the tools and skills needed to succeed in his current position.”
An investigator from the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs’ licensing and certification division also found that Wilson’s wife, New Directions CEO Rebecca Flood (left), treated staff as her “personal servants,” berating and belittling them, and spoke to patients in “a condescending, rude, overbearing, humiliating and loud manner.”
The state reports - released many months after they were written - may not be the last word.
The center’s volunteer board did its own investigation, and found that these things did not happen, said Amir Kahana, attorney and former chair of New Directions’ board. ”What I am happy to tell you is that the department has advised us that the counselor investigative reports have been withdrawn after appeal,” Kahana said. “We have been assured that written notification will be forthcoming shortly…. Rebecca Flood and Maruice Wilson have done nothing wrong.”
State officials, however, said that the reports have not been withdrawn. “They are in the appeal process, but it has not yet been set for a hearing,” said Tina Chiginsky, spokeswoman for the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs.
Wilson and Flood are also administrators at Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach.
There has been passionate debate on this site over conditions at New Directions, which specializes in weaning women with children away from their addictions.Earlier this year, former therapist Christy Demetriades filed a wrongful termination suit against New Directions, charging that she was fired after trying to blow the whistle on Wilson and Flood. Wilson and Flood responded by filing a suit against Demetriades, charging her with defamation. The center’s supporters said that critics were out to destroy it; Demetriades’ supporters said that New Directions was trying to silence her.
Wilson, the state report said, “enters the women’s residential living and sleeping areas unannounced at various times of the night and early morning hours,” catching residents in their pajamas and in various states of dress and undress. Residents felt “very uncomfortable, frightened and intimidated” by Wilson, who would walk around the facility in his robe at night, they told the state.
The report said Wilson also shouted profanities at a staffer, within earshot of other staffers and patients; shouted and swore at a child in the facility, “causing the child to become frightened and shaking;” mistreated staff members by “berating, threatening, belittling and/or yelling at them;” violated patients’ personal rights ” by speaking to them in a condescending, rude, humiliating and loud manner” and violated one patient’s right to confidentiality.
Flood, Wilson’s wife and, technically, his boss, also failed to treat staff members “with proper dignity and respect,” the state found.
Flood “screamed at and belittled a new employee when the new employee accidentally disconnected (her) on the
telephone. Interviews revealed that (Flood) treats employees as if they are her personal servants, that she is rude, dismissive and a complete authoritarian. (Her) management style was described as intimidating, abusive, bullying and gives perpetual threats of job loss to other employees,” the report said.
There were numerous incidents of Flood violating residents’ personal rights by speaking to them in “a condescending, rude and humiliating manner;” and Flood also violated a resident’s right to confidentiality, the state found.
Flood worked at a New Jersey treatment center called Seabrook House in 2006, when a jury ordered the facility to pay its former chief operating officer $1 million for firing her after she expressed concerns about insurance fraud and falsified medical records, according to a story in The Press of Atlantic City. That award had nothing to do with Flood, New Directions officials said.
The two sides have been offering starkly different versions of reality throughout this confrontation; that will apparently continue, perhaps through a trial when principals take the stand.
UPDATE: The Watchdog has confirmed that the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) issued orders last August requiring Wilson and Flood to undergo further training. Wilson and Flood appealed those orders, but the
state did not set those appeals for hearing within the time period required by law. As a result, the orders were dismissed and no hearing was held about the findings of the counselor investigative reports. The state also issued Notices of Deficiency to the facility, which New Directions has appealed. Click here to read more about the orders.

In articles related to this story, there are so many comments posted by current and former employees as well as patients who support the States findings.
What is going on with this Board of Directors? What do they have to lose if the Wilson/Floods lose? Why is the Board of Directors so frightened and threatened by facts? Why deny the truth? The smart business move is to cut your losses and clean house.
Denial is one of the the first manifestations of addiction. What are these people addicted to? Sex, money, drama and power?

Being in charge of a “recovery” facility requires someone with a lot more compassion & ethics. Doesnt sound like either of these characters have that quality.

The program and it’s history is prominent in the community. The individuals managing the program are not from this area. I believe the family, the Wilders, are prominent. The current management are recent transplants and they originate from the East Coast. The managers of the program are not prominent in this community.
Sexually harassing patients, berating and belittling staff members and breaching other codes of professional conduct. When and how does the actual hard work of recovery take place? For patients in recovery, these managers are a huge distraction from the patients goal of sobriety.
Becoming sober and working on ones recovery issues requires dedication and perserverance as well as support from a sober network.
These managers are not able to provide an environment conducive to anyone’s recovery.
I would love to know how many patients are still residing at the facility, where those patients are from (my best guess is they are from out of State and unaware of the sad reputation NDFW has in the recovery community), whether or not the patients family is aware of the sick distractions inflicted on their loved ones. Families pay exhorbitant amounts of money for this??? Full disclosure to patients family regarding the mess their loved ones are sitting in is absolutely crucial as well as the ethical thing to do.
Step up NDFW, let the families know their loved ones are in a troubled facility!
I agree with Karen and Rae. There is no end in site to the destruction these two have created. Everyone makes their own bed… now they need to lay in theirs. The truth always comes out in end… and their end has just arrived.

What is so threatening about two people who have no ethics, they lack boundaries and they are bullies as well as perverts? Treat them the way they deserve to be treated. What can they do, fire you? it’s not that people are afraid, but more rather that we jobs in this field and need to remain professional. I understand your point however some employers might see this as a liability if your posting stuff whether true or not about your former employer. I used to work there and I’m not afraid, but some others are not able to take that risk. And it’s a risk….
I understand that employees, past and present, need to remain professional. I think there are other remedies than posting. Can’t the people who have been hurt by these two dictators get together and figure out an approriate way of confronting these vultures? It would not need to involver your current employment. As an employer of several CADAC employees, I can tell you no one is surprised by the findings of the State. This NDFW facility has no credibility in the sober community nor does it have a solid reputation. We are all aware NDFW is filled with women who are from out of state.
So far, those employees who are willing to identify themselves really should consider meeting with each other to share their experiences. Power in numbers, yes? Good luck to all of you! It will require courage. This is when we find out what we are really made of. How much risk are they willing to take?

Thanks for the article. The public has the right to know what the state investigative report found. It is interesting that Amir, their lawyer and past board president is still denying all allegations. I would bet that if the parties involved had apologized and changed their behaviors in the beginning when all of this started this would have ended a long time ago. By continuning to deny that any of this happened and then trying to publically humiliate the former staff members and patients who brought this problem to light, they have made matters worse. They have settled one lawsuit already, but something tells me they will be settling alot more. I am surprised that the ethical law abiding members of the board are allowing this to go on. By remaining silent they are.
Just to set the record straight, Becky was intimately involved in the lawsuit at Seabrook house. She told the psychologist to “falsify patient documents.” A former staff member from NDFW sent the article of the lawsuit to the Board of NDFW, and they “eliminated” her position. Not only are Becky and Maurice corrupt, but so is this Board. This Board is the problem. They have no morals nor integrity. This place needs to be shut down. These reports prove that they are causing harm to vulnerable patients and families. The public must put pressure on the State to pull their license.
I’ve been following these articles and i’ve noticed that everything that these new directions people have said has been a lie. They said the black guy didn’t walk around in his robe, and the state reports said otherwise. Their lawyer, amir, said that the state reports were being pulled, and the state said they were not. Flood also would put fake write ups in employees personnel folders so it would look like they were “troubled.” She forced us to sign documents and made us sign them without reading them - about other employees doing things that they didn’t do. Talk about unethical - that’s ILLEGAL! And NDFW had a dress code and we had to wear purple shirts all the time, well she gave tours in her BATHING SUIT!!! How professional is that? That’s hypocracy in it’s purest form. She has destroyed so many lives - she is an addict NOT in recovery and is mentally ill.

This sounds crazy! For someone with ALL these credentials (PhD/Minister, etc.) you wouldn’t expect him to be SO UNETHICAL and in SO MUCH TROUBLE with the state! The state required him to seek more “professional development”?? What he hasn’t had enough already?? You HAVE to have had ethics training to have graduated with a PhD, become an ordained minister, and be a researcher in the healthcare field….so what’s his problem?! Several of us were wondering the same thing! We were also wondering how valid Wilson’s credentials really are! They appear to have been purchased onlline. Another troubleing element here is the CARF certification process. Wilson was a behavioral health surveyor for the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) during the time NDFW was seeking CARF accreditation? How does that work? He passes the facility that feeds, pays and houses him? Why wouldn’t he? At one time he was qualtiy assurance and any complaints regarding the CEO were directed to Wilson and the CEO his wife? How could a board of directors think this is ethical? For your information, Amir, president of the board of directors, ethics tend to be codifed into a formal system or set of rules which are explicitly adopted by a group of people. To accuse somone of having questionable ethics is the same as telling the individual they are unprofessional. All of you, the Board of Directors, The CEO, COO, CFO, Clinical Director and all the other little self-appointed titled individuals are beyond unprofessional. You are now criminals. I hope you get your A_ _ sued! Apparently the only issue you people respond to is monetary!

Looks like Christy was telling the truth. It takes a lot of integrity and backbone to stand up to people like these. Actually, in order to be an ethical professional, all people in the mental health professions are mandated reporters. I’ve been working in the intervention field for over 20 years and had the priviledge of working with Christy. She provided me with daily phone updates and weekly written reports. She provided each of the clients that I refered with excellent care. It’s a shame that by doing her job and being an ethical therapist, New Directions tried to silence her. Funny thing is, the clients that I refered to New Directions all had complaints about New Directions, but each one that had Christy as a therapist loved her and said that she was the only reason their treatment was a success. Any treatment facility will be lucky to have her. She is a true professional. Money cannot buy integrity - as this case has obviously revealed. I look forward to working with Christy again, and I hope she lets us all know where she relocates. She is a great asset to our field.

They say that they care so much for the children there when summer came Ms Annie had fans working the daycare to cool the babies down all the time. Maurice had them build him an office from a qrt of the garage and before he moved in to it they put an airconditioner in for him. It was just in mid march that they put an air conditiong unit in the day care. They have over 50,000.00 in reserve for the day care and should have used that money for that a long time ago. They don’t care for their dedicated ex-employees, patients and babies just for themselves.
Maurice is responsible for putting all of the graphs and charts online about the outcomes of the patients and how well ndfw’s recitivism rates are. These are all lies. He manipulates the data to make it appear that ndfw has outstanding sucess rates, but it’s all not true. They also send out employee surveys and becky uses these to screen out who might be, in her twisted mind, becoming savvy to her. no one in afforded confidentiality. they will sit in meetings and talk about employees and who might be becoming a problem - in other words, who is not bending to becky’s manipulation or maurices bullying.
Becky also wrote an article in which she is trying to change her image. she said that she thought of the term “a hole in the sole.” This is a lie. She copied this from the article posted in the Treatment Magazine (which she receives as do most treatment centers) and it was written by Ted Jackson on April 2007. Each individual Board member will be sued as well. By now, they have seen more than enough, and because they still continue to stand by her, they are not only foolish, delusional idiots, but their lack of actions continues to put the public at harm. New Directions will not survive what is to come.
becky and maurice also have accepted women who are not appropriate to be treated at ndfw. when the entire treatment team has said NO that the lady was too ill to be treated and that she needed to be sent to a place that had medical staff 24/7, becky and maurice still accepted her for the $$$$. they overrode the medical doctor, nurse practitioners, and all three masters level marriage and family therapists decisions. becky does not have a counseling degree, a MD, or a nursing degree. Maurice is a number cruncher. Now, they are continuing to lower the quality of care they provide women by eliminating LICENSED Masters level marriage and family therapists and have people who have only a drug and alcohol certificate. anyone can get this online. so why not have the 7-11 clerk give you precious daughter therapy? that’s what they would rather provide your beloved family member, because the more ignorant their staff, then the easier they are to control. isn’t that so nice and dandy? what they are doing is hiring stupid people who don’t know the laws so that they can’t report all of the illegal and unethical activities that backy and morice are doing. and the board sits by and approves it all. your hell will not come soon enough - you all will deserve what is coming.
For your info I am a certified drug and alcohol counselor and I went to school, not online. You can also get your MFT license online. The only difference is that I am trained specifically for addiction and MFT’s are not!!! I am also a Registered Addiction Specialist through CAADAC. Please do not knock down things which you know nothing about. I went to school for 2 years and continue to go to increase my knowledge. May I ask what are YOUR credentials?
by the way I worked for New Directions and understand the bs that goes on there. I now work for another company. Many of the people I worked with at NDFW were not stupid and knew what they were talking about. It’s not the therapists or CC’s there that are stupid, it’s the upper clinical team.
I am also a California state certified drug and alcohol counselor. There was no online schooling provided for me, it was a hands on class, 255 hours of supervised practicum hours, then 4,000 hours of work experience followed by an oral examination provided by the CAADAC board. In my book that’s not exactly an easy or quick acheivement. Please do a little more research rather than making foolish and false assumptions.
An MFT license is a higher credential and a broader scope of practice than a CAADAC or any certificate in drug/alcohol counseling. MFTs ARE trained in substance abuse treatment along with all the personal and interpersonal issues that often lead to substance abuse in the first place: childhood abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship dissolution, issues of co-parenting, stress, etc. The DSM is our Bible. (How many CAADACs can diagnose and treat anything in the DSM? And isn’t it disconcerning that patients in rehab often have co-occurring disorders with their substance abuse problem, like depression, anxiety, trauma, etc., and NDFW has no licensed therapist to treat that component?)
MFTs are relationship experts — so we know what harassment looks like, smells like, and how it effects people. That is what is so disturbing about all these posts — it’s so obvious. We are also highly trained in ethical courses like confidentiality, conflict of interest, boundaries, etc., and issues of gender and power. We believe that no problem exists in a vacuum, but rather has a relational context. An individual may be using drugs, but you can’t fix the drug problem without addressing the context in which it resides. Relationships are the vehicle through which healing takes place and we know how to engineer a relational context that will ultimately promote serenity and sobriety.
I understand your point however I am also in the program. Which most MFT’s are not. I understand on every level what they are feeling. I also know how to get clean and sober and stay clean and sober. Do you?? I understand co-occuring disorders well. I have taken many classes regarding it and other psych classes. I am also pursuing my MFT and eventually my MSW. Facilities need all kinds of people to run them the highest potential. You need us as much as we need you. Unfortunately we seem to be the only ones who can recognize that. We all have the same goal in the end. To help the client!!! When you can see, admit, and understand that, It will make YOU a better person……
Could not have said it better myself. I watch MFT’s along with PSYDs work much better in unison with a drug and alcohol counselor than as a solo act. The purpose is to provide the entire package of care. Therapists in the organization I work for frequently need help in understanding certain aspects of a client’s addiction. For the record, I have not once in my personal or work experience witnessed an individual acheive sobriety soley by working with a therapist. I have however seen individuals acheive sobriety working with an addiction specialist accompanied and not accompanied by therapy.
Nurses and technicians are valued members of medical teams. I’m sure there’s an analogy here for CAADACs, etc. However, it would be misguided for someone with 2 yrs education to think they were equivalent or better than someone with 10-12yrs of advanced education and it’s extremely disrespectful toward those who have put in that amount of work to ignore that fact. While a nurse can provide valuable care, there are many things she can’t do, for instance, brain surgery. A licensed MFT/PsyD/PhD has a great deal more range of knowledge and tools to bring to bear on a particular situation than the narrow and specific training that 2 yrs can provide.
As for effectiveness, it’s not a matter of opinion, rather research such as that funded by NIH has investigated the effectiveness of a number of approaches. MFT approaches, like FFT, MST, Couples BT, are THE MOST effective and useful approaches to treating substance abuse disorders as well as the ASSOCIATED PROBLEMS: substance abuse is a symptom in most cases of a larger problem. Moreover, family therapy has been shown time and again to be more effective than individual therapy. Efficacy research for alcohol shows AA is NOT an effective approach as a stand alone approach despite its wide-spread prescription in our society. If you’re going to be working in this field, you have to be aware of these issues. It’s not about your personal ego or opinion, nor mine, but rather what science is showing us to be true about the best care and approaches to treating substance abuse.

You do talk down to employees but know I hear you Becky and Evil Virginia are sweet to employees…They are all mostly new employees now. Virginia still talks bad about the people that left NDFW. I look forward to the sweet day when all three are no longer wrecking NDFW and the mission NDFW has. Pack up and leave already you three for the patients sake!!! Patients have no idea who you 3 are. Virginia sut at her window making fun of all the patients as they walk out for break and Becky was there at NDFW for maybe 4 hours in a day. 150,000 for 4 hours a day 5 days a week what does that come out to hourly????? For 2/3 years I watched patients enter a deep depression for days and get angry and anxious whenever Becky or Maurice would fire their therapist and give them a new one just because the census was low. Patients got angry and wanted their money back! It’s just wrong to switch a patient’s therapist halfway through their treatment especially if they were only there for 30 days!! Those patients deserved “continuity of care” — hello — something Becky and Maurice could be sued for not providing!! Talk about a junk show! I also watched those patients with severe mental issues cause problems for the whole community because there was no qualified therapist to work with them! Or, if there was a licensed therapist on staff, the patient’s primary therapist wasn’t a therapist but a “counselor” pretending to be a therapist. We’re talking about severe issues like bi-polar, psychosis, etc. The other patients would complain that no one was treating these troubled patients and thought some of them should have been referred out to a psych ward. Patients had their treatment interrupted by Becky and Maurice’s lack of clinical knowledge and skill — they’re just ignorant and not qualified to be running a rehab. I also watched a handful of qualified therapists and counselors come through there and go — such a shame!!!!!! Now I doubt any qualified therapist or drug counselor wants to be associated with these two. I think patients should go somewhere else. Can anyone post a list of referrals that these patients could look into transferring to?
In regards to the above statements: Unless you have been down that road, then you have no clue what you are talking about. I am not saying that my education compares to yours, however, there is no training that can be provided for the experience I can offer. I said that this field needs both of us to function at it’s best and YOU would still rather argue that you are better than. You need to let your pride go and accept the fact that maybe I might have something to offer your clients that you cannot. I do not put your profession down. I would expect the same respect from someone of your education and ethics.
You couldn’t pay me to go back and work for these two. After what I went through personaly and professionally, and what I saw them do to patients and other employees I was so relieved to be gone. Now I just worry about the other patients who are still there bc obviously they haven’t changed! I’m proud of Christy for protecting her clients and reporting the harassment. I think Becky and Maurice are evil for firing Christy because she “blew the wistle” on their harassment. Those 2 need to go!
I was there when Becky came in and talked to us and told us all the things being said about her and Maurice were lies! Yeah right! She’s the liar!! I actually believed her line of crap that she fed us in front of everyone. What a liar! And she was never friendly to any of us either. And nobody like Maurice he always talked down to us and made us feel like we were bad and evil. I hope they go! NDFW can be great without those two. I would have rather Becky not talked to us at all then to find out now that she actually lied to us. What kind of example is that for us in terms of our sobriety ???
Sound like these two are “perpetrators”…I’d get rid of them. Wonder why the board hasn’t. Also wonder why the state hasn’t done more in terms of removing them from their positions or making them attend education/therapy on “how to not be a perpetrator.” There are groups for people who are perpetrators and there’s also jail.
I was a patient at NDFW in 2006. I had a therapist who cried more than I cried because whe was being harrassed by becky and maurice. I ended up leaving after 2 weeks. I had a case manager that was my therapist, resource connection and my rock (I know it’s late, but thank you rae.) Karen held my hand at night and let me talk and helped me get to meetings when the van was full. There was another cc who helped me find a facility in the area I lived in so I could complete my treatment. I am pretty sure she was not supposed to help me get out of there and if you are still there, thank you for your help. I have 2 years of sobriety directly related to my escape from NDFW and Karen and Rae and the cc who helped me. I had to get a taxi and sneak out in the middle of the night. Becky threatened me twice. the first time she said if I left, my insurance would not pay for the 2 weeks of (non)treatment and she would send my name to a collections agency and the second time she told me she would make sure no other treatment facility would accept me. I took this very persoanlly and felt dirty. Rae and Karen and the the cc explained my sobriety was my own priority and to try to learn from roadblocks like becky flood.
While I was there, I observed a patient being discharged with a 2 hour notice because her insurance refused to pay. She was told to pack up and get out and she had only 2 hours to get out and no where to go. Again, rae and karen found a sober living house for her and made sure she was safe. the cc drove her there. I am sure becky knew nothing about this. That patient was 3 weeks into treatment and had no preparation to leave. During my 2 weeks, I witnessed patients being referred to outside professionals who were more qualified and equipped to deal with the patients diagnosis. This was done secretly because becky never knew what to do with a co-occurring disorder, a severe self injuy or bulimia. Thank GOD for that staff who recognized a crisis and addressed it appropriately. I have no doubt some lives were saved by the case manager that referred the women to outside help, not the case manager that gave us tea parties (yes, really, she held tea parties and did not even talk about our addictions!) Thank God for the cc who helped the case manager get things done and go to hell becky!

The truth comes out at last. Maurice and Becky deserve each other, but unfortunately she wasn’t enough for him, and then she takes it out on the people who turn over their lives to her. She will get hers, but not from prowling Maurice.

I want them both to get what they deserve and while they do deserve each other, there are legal, moral and ethical ramifications that need to be given to both of them!
So this is where we leave it? As a member of the community, it angers me that NDFW has turned into a laugh line, a joke and the mission and purpose of the place has been perverted.
Where are all those loud, vociferous protests from “inside?” What does the Board of Directors and Amir have to say now that the State findings have been made public? What defense has the Flood/Wilson camp created in the face of the State report? What happened to the State rescinding their findings and the Board appointed investigation results appeal? What are the facts, please? I like the jokes. Dark humor is certainly appreciated and ‘Funny’ as well as ‘Ferguson’ made me smile. I am still interested in the outcome of this case! As a community, do we allow this to continue? Is the Register going to continue to follow this story? Will former employees and patients continue litigation? Come on!! This is better than OCHouseWives! This is true drama and I would like to see the series ending! Wouldn’t you like to see how this ends or are you satisfied with a season finale cliff hanger???? It would be great if this were a TV show. Unfortunately there are lives at risk and if this is not resolved, those lives are impacted. Clean it up, close it up or cure it! Don’t walk away from this and leave it as some little dirty mess we all sweep under the carpet.

It gets worse - when I was in treatment, Maurice was so mean that I reported him to my P.O. My parole officer came and met Maurice, and he didn’t like him either. My P.O. ran a background check on Maurice and found that he has a criminal history of abusing women. So I want to know how the board can allow a man who has a criminal past, with a history of abusing women, to be IN CHARGE of an ALL WOMEN and CHILDRENS facility? Don’t they do background check’s on these people? Or did the money smell too good for them? They put all of our lives in danger by allowing this pervert to be there. And they really expect his wife to manage him? Comon! They are both sick! My attorney says that the board is responsible and I have others joining me in a suit of negligence. My P.O. knew about this which means that the county of orange knew about this. I’ve got a great attorney who is going for their jugler. They can kiss their county contract goodbye.
Actually, he has a record of assaulting women. And it’s more than one. Also, when New Directions had their 30th anniversary, Becky spent THOUSANDS of dollars on hotel rooms that remained empty - and she asked us to go sleep in them so the money would not go to waste. She ordered limo’s to pick up the residents at the Beach on Saturday evening, and the limo’s had LIQUOR in them. What does this tell you about the forethought of the CEO? Do you think there were problems? Yes. Patients were triggered, and many wanted to leave. Way to go Becky! Why not just have an open bar at New Directions. And don’t even try to blame anyone else for the liquor - you know you did that all on your own. The thing with Becky is this - she takes no responsibility for anything. She will ask employees to vote and will create tons of policies so that she can tell the board that everyone else is responsible for reporting this or writing up that, but when it comes down to it, you will never hear her or Maurice ONCE take ANY responsibility for ANYTHING. They blame EVERYONE else - this is a hallmark of addiction. It’s everyone else’s fault but my own. This is not the sign of a leader but of someone who is very sick. New Directions will fall. It’s only a matter of how fast.
When I worked there I questioned the appropriatness of a alcohol and drug rehab having a cocktail party as part of their fundraising night. They often would parade the appropriate clients around at these events.( are you wondering who was appropriate in their eyes? The rich pretty young things. It made a much nicer impression for the donors.. I spoke to the ladies when the would return and many were alarmed and triggered. This is getting very ridiculous, that the board has not decided to cut their losses. What will it take??
Standing up- you are so right that NDFW will fall and that is sad news. It has a great mission but very bad and evil management. Lynn Wilder and his wife (passed) create a beautiful place for women and women with children to get better. There have been dedicated employees that have come and gone. It is too bad that has happen Thanks to Becky and Maurice and to put a cherry on top add Virginia into the mix and you have a screwed up organization, that will stay in damage control mode fro awhile. How many employees has NDFW gone through? Really, How many turnovers in Admission since Becky came on board? How many Therapist have been laid off since Becky took over? How many employees turnover in the Development Department (fund raisers)? How many CC’s have left or been laid off since Becky Started?!!!! How many left because of stress and being belittled how many employees can say they liked the management team? How many left because they could no longer take working for Becky, Maurice and Virginia? Maybe I should start a poll on here since they put fradulate write up in employee files to cover their asses. We will never know how many people came in and out since Becky took over. Very Sad and disturbing that Lynn had not ask that question or looked at the statistics. Becky would make sure to fight any unemployment forms from any employee that quit. She came in my office one day and said she will fight for every penny that does not go to an employee that has quit or she did not like. And told us employees, that she does not take any money for working at Morningside when if fact she gets 5 digit amount monthly from them and there is poof to that. That is on top of her 150,000 and free housing and her stipend. Life is great for Becky and Maurice, She will alway be a LIAR.
Lynn Wilder gives less than a sh_t what happens to NDFW! He could have stepped in anytime before all this grew into an unmanageable mess. He chose not to investigate, speak to employees or talk to patients. What motivation does he have to clean up NDFW? If it falls, he gets to sell off the property. If it makes money, so does he. He wins either way.
NDFW needs to be restored to the vision the founder had, treating women with respect and dignity while they sought treatment for their addiction.
Turn the place over to a competent treatment and recovery entity. Restoring it’s messed up reputation is almost impossible.
You will not hear any positive comments on this post any longer. Since the case with Christy was settled obviously part of the settlement was to put a lid on it so that ended all the postings we were reading about how wonderful NDFW was.
If you have proof of Maurice having a criminal background I would forward that information to the State ADP Attorney. All employees needed to go thru a background check with the County. If Maurice did not go thru that check or get an exemption then they are in violation. You can continue with your own lawsuit,however, that might be the evidence they need to have him removed from NDFW. You owe it to future patients and employees to pass that info on to the authorities who can take the appropriate action.
The County of Orange has the information about Maurice’s criminal history and this was given to the State. The State does not want them in CA any longer. Neither do any of the other treatment facilities. NDFW has a terrible reputation with all of the local and CA treatment facilities, which is why they have no referals from any of treatment facilities in CA or on the west coast. That’s why all of their patients come from Seabrook House and back East, where everyone is in the dark. Not for long.
Ex employee: Not for long? I, too, thought it would not be long before these two clowns were driven out of California. Unless there is new information, or new allegations or new charges, it appears The Flood/Wilson gang got away with every single unethical act they committed on patients and employees. No one is going to address the Board of Directors and hold them accountable for their support of this criminal management team. No one seems interested in holding the management team accountable. So, it’s business as usual. So sad and so frustrating for all of us who have been at the mercy of this group of people. We would like some resolution here, prefereably in the form of the removal of the management as well as the Board. Instead, they are left to continue their money grubbing business practices and now they will be even more paranoid and more careful not to get caught. This is so WRONG! Maybe ex patients and ex employees need to turn up the heat and picket the facility and both groups should absolutely pursue law suits against NDFW. What would it take for management to get booted out? Apparently they are immune from the consequences of their choices. Great recovery example! It’s called “Running your own program.” This group excells at running their program right over people!

State tax collections continued to fall in the first quarter as muted consumption, falling incomes and weak profits plunged states into a deeper financial hole, the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government at the State University of New York said in a report to be released Wednesday.
The 47 states that have reported first-quarter revenues saw total tax collections fall 12.6% — about $20 billion — compared with the first three months of 2008, the institute said.
The steepest drops were in income taxes: Corporate income taxes declined 16.2% in the latest quarter, reflecting weaker profits. Personal income taxes fell 15.8%. Sales taxes were down 7.6%. Forty-five of the 47 states saw revenues decline.
The government revised estimates for the long-term solvency of Medicare and Social Security on Tuesday, moving up the date when trust funds for the entitlement programs will run out of money.
The Medicare fund for hospital care will be depleted in 2017, two years earlier than government actuaries estimated a year ago. Last year marked the first time that Medicare ran a deficit, paying out more in benefits than it generates from taxes and other revenue.

I was there in ‘08 and I had 3 relapses in 90 days. I was told by Mr. and Mrs. Flood I could stay even though I relapsed if I paid an extra $20,000.00 and they promised to keep my relapses “quiet.” They promised not to tell my family and they promised not to tell the other patients. I paid the $20,000.00 in a money transfer and they were true to their word. They kept their mouths shut and I kept drinking. They let me sleep it off and did not make me go to the groups. I had a great time. When I “graduated” and received my coin of completion, Mrs. Flood made a sweet speech in front of the other patients about what a great progam I had run and all the terrific changes I had made. It was terrific! I am still drinking and sobriety is the last thing on my mind. I appreciate Mrs. Flood being discreet about my relapses. Just goes to show you, with enough money, it didn’t matter what we did at New Directions. We paid up and they shut up. It worked out great!

Just one more disatisfied customer from the past. Thank you for throwing me out in the street when my insurance ran out! Thank you for billing my insurance company for two extra days I WAS NOT THERE! Thank you for billing my insurance company for therapy sessions I never participated in and finally, thank you for your final words to me “You can’t stay here! What are you thinking? If your insurance can’t pay, maybe your family should take a mortgage out on their house to pay for your treatment.” “If they loved you, they would do that for you.” Guilt motivates, doesn’t it?
On behalf of the 3 patients who left around the same time I left, we want to thank you so much for locking the kitchen so we couldn’t eat after 8:00 PM. when we returned from AA/NA meetings. Thank you for allowing your husband to teach us all about our low self esteem. By the way, being called derogatory names did not raise our self esteem. Thank you for letting your husband drive us to NA/AA meetings while he massaged his genitals during the drive and most of all thank you so very much for making us feel special, welcomed and valued at your fine facility! You are the bomb, Becky!

Maurice was actually not the problem, he just did what “the boss” told him to do. Becky hijacked Morningside, slashed the staff and treated those that remained like dirt. Thank god Morningside saw the light and Jill and Jeff Yates are back in charge and treating the staff and clients with dignity and respect. Jeff Yates was back at work for 1 day before they were given the ax. Now that Morningside is free from the Iron Maiden the truth about the entire relationship will surely surface
Congratulations on getting your facility out of the hands of those two felons! You guys are probably so relieved! The poor staff at NDFW now have to deal with the Flood/Wilson gang fulltime. I have empathy for those employees. Becky will continue to deny she was DUMPED by Morningside. Maurice IS a problem. Sexual harassment is illegal. Violating patients rights to confidentiality is illegal. Berating, belittling staff is unethical. That is a problem. He may not be the BIGGEST problem, that title goes to his better half, Becky. Two individuals, working in the recovery field, victimizing staff and patients are lacking the fundamental values required to remain sober. Tolerance, honesty, ethics and integrity.

We have to be kind to your face or You, and Virginia will have our heads. Of course we don’t like you and we just put up a front it’s our jobs and we care for the patients not you. So we put up with your management teams crap in order to care for the patients. I feel sad for the patients as they do not get the care they deserve. Groups are a joke here at NDFW. Has it occured to the management at NDFW and/or the Board of Directors that something horrific must have happened and is still happening to these ex employees, current employees and patients? They are angry and wounded. They did not do this to themselves. There is a tangible reason for their anger.
It appears the staff has approached the Board and their concerns were not addressed. It appears the staff took the appropriate steps to notify authorities about the actions of management and there was no resolution. What other choice do they have to be heard? This site and all the posts are a reflection of many, many people who have the same experience. Ultimately, the individuals would not be this angry and passionate if SOMEONE had listened to their concerns and ACTED on the information that was provided. This is simple logic. Unfortunately, sadly it is doubtful there will ever be a resolution. There are too many individuals in a position of power and authority and they have the money and resources to wait this out. This will all blow over and management with the board will resume business as usual. So sorry.

When I worked for becky, she was all smiles in the beginning. She never trained me, then a couple days later, I was working 10 hours per day. I thought it was just situational. Nope. Three weeks later after working for 21 days straight, I realized that I had not had a day off. I asked her to give me a day off, and this was on a Friday. She looked at me after I had been working 9 hours straight, and I told her I needed a lunch break. She told me, “No. You need to go to LAX to pick up that new girl who is coming in from NJ.” She didn’t even let me take a lunch break! I saw the light really soon. I didn’t stay very long. It felt like an emotional whipping to me. That woman has not one ounce of compassion in her being - she is driven solely by money and greed. I am so happy to be working at another local facility - and the comments above that say that NDFW does not have a good reputation are SO TRUE! As long as Rebecca Flood is at New Directions, there will not be any money or any referrals sent to that place. She is poison to any place that brings her in. Those of us who know her and who are local all know this. And most of the addiction community knows this as well. She is just in massive denial - and she’s very, very sick. The short time I worked with Chrissy, I enjoyed her. She was there early in the mornings, and stayed late - and came in on weekends. She really has a heart to help people. Too bad for new directions - they lost a valuable asset, but she did the right thing. I wish I would have done it myself, but I have a family to take care of. Well done chrissy!
Becky and virginia were overheard talking about the Board and laughing at how stupid they were. Becky uses people. Plain and simple. Her modus operandi is to go into a place, get rid of people, then hire new people so she can control them. I bet that is what she did at morningside. She probably went in, fired several of the key people there, then brought in new people so she could control them and have things done her own way. The thing with becky is that she never takes any responsibility for anything - and she does not train people. she induces guilt. Blame is the name. She also thinks she is above EVERYONE. You seem to be missing the point entirely. There are professional ethics that apply to business. It appears management of NDFW has chosen a different direction, a direction that lacks ethics. There is a pay off for being a volunteer on the Board. Since NDFW is non profit, a board member could easily donate money to lower an income tax liability and have the money kicked back after their tax crisis subsides. Not everyone is “babyish.” There are people who read these posts that understand business issues quite well. There are forensic CPA’s, auditors and quality control analysts. Don’t make condescending assumptions.

I am so saddened for the women who went through that center and was harmed as well as the staff who endured the havoc of an unscrupulous boss.
I am also saddened that another recovery center especially for women is in complete dysfunction. There are so many women and children that need help and that trust us for guidance and direction only to be put through additional trauma. As if we haven’t gone through enough.
I personally work in this industry and there are really good people out there that are willing to give their right arm to help people in need and who don’t expect anything in return. Unfortunately for Becky and Maurice once your reputation is tarnished there is no turning back. Of course the graceful thing to do would be to resign, however when we are stuck in our disease our egos won’t allow us to do this. Please think of the women and what they are going through. Then ask yourself this question, is it really worth it? Do I do what’s easy or do I do what’s right?
I can think of a hundred different names to call them. But that is easy! My program tells me to do what’s right and that is pray for them as well as everyone else who is involved. Everything that happens in the dark will come to light. And remember a house divided will not stand.
Prayers are going out directly to all the unfortunate women that were hurt..Prayers are also going out to NDFW including the board members. Please think of the women!
The buck stops at the feet of the ADP. Ultimately, ADP will need to be held accountable for allowing Flood/Wilson/Board to run this important, albeit, small facility using illegal, unethical and abusive tactics.
ADP has been contacted more than once, the result was one investigation wich resulted in a few minor corrective actions and the whole management team was allowed to stay.
ADP shares the liability for the damage inflicted upon patients and staff.
It takes quite a few people to turn a blind eye away from a situation as serious as the problem at NDFW. Apparently, ADP feels an appeal of their own State report is warranted. This speaks volumes about the way ADP investigates. If a person has been found guilty of sexual harassment and left to work in a facility with children and women, what logic is ADP using? When the lawsuits start flying, ADP will be named along with all the other primary offenders.
It’s over. The management at NDFW got a light slap on the wrist and now it’s business as usual. Nothing more will happen to them. Why would they leave? They have a great set up. It’s a bitter pill to swallow and we empathize with those who have been damaged and hurt. The fact remains, it is a done deal. Becky Flood, just like a cockroach, appears to be indestructable.
Obviously these posts are going to continue until becky and maurice and the board are gone. People are too upset to let these people get away with these things. Morningside already cut their ties — New Directions needs to do the same. The longer they wait, the worse their reputation will become and the worse these posts will get. I don’t think these patients/employees are going to shut their mouths until this happens, and rightfully so.

When I was a patient at NDFW, I distinctly remember the cook, Eyal, making two seperate dinners. One for the patients and one meal for the board of directors. Patients food was very basic. Boards food was fresh fruit, great cheeses, finger foods and presented beautifully. Guess who had to clean up the kitchen after Eyal made a big mess making both those meals? That’s right! The patients. I don’t know what the therapuetic value was for us to do everyones dishes. I do know there were some food items we absolutely were not allowed to touch, let alone eat! I guess, since we were exhausted from laying around all day waiting for a therapist to meet with us, our therapy consisted of cleaning the kitchen. I feel traumatized by my experience at that place. Can’t go back to NDFW, they don’t have a truama program. I know, I know, I know they SAY they have a truama program, beleive me, they do not!

I was a care coordinator and it was my job to make sure the residents had cleaned the kitchen and emptied the dishwasher and cleaned out the trash cans prior to cooks arrival at 8:00AM. I distinctly remember having to lock and unlock that kitchen door throughout the day. Within the kitchen area is a smaller pantry and the cooks office. ONLY the cook at access to that food and that lock. Staff was instructed to LOCK the kitchen after the residents had cleaned after evening meal. Failure to clean the kitchen resulted in a Learning Experience issued to the resident. No, I did not follow the rules and yes I did unlock the kitchen as soon as the cook and management were not in the facility. Depriving people of food is not therapuetic. Yes, there were times when two seperate meals were cooked and yes, one meal went to meetings management was holding in her office. Do not deny this. Ask any patient who had to scrub the floor mats, wash the dirty rags and clean pots and pans. Don’t deny the obvious. There are too many people who will prove you WRONG. It happened!
The above statement is false… Food and snacks are present at all times at New Directions for Women. There is a stand directly accross the room from the kitchen. It is lbeautiful wood cabinet. fruit, trail mix, etc etc etc. The women are well fed. they have 3 full meals and snacks throughour the day. Light chores are a part of learning responsibilities and taking care of your surroundings. This is a trait which is extremely helpful in real life too. Taking care of your home! The reason that the main food storage is locked after well afetr dinner is because many women have cross addictions which are then cross referenced to Overeaters Anonymous. Although the main pantry is closed late at night, and through the middle of the night. As mentioned above snacks and drinks are ALWAYS available. I know this as Gospel because I am a former patient… I lived the generous food experience at NDFW. Don’t believe the false complaining. Just like all of the negitive posts… they are just trying to stur up rumors…
You have got to be kidding me! As an ex patient, I spent more time in that dirty ass kitchen than I spent in therapy. Not only were we expected to clean the filthy kitchen, we also had “house” chores! Mopping the floors, dusting the common area and cleaning the patio. I am not saying we should not have had to do this stuff, just don’t lie about us NOT having to do it! Because we were ALL assigned chores and people in the kitchen HAD to clean or they were punished by having to write essays. The CC’s ran around like crazy to help us get that place clean before 8:00 Am when the prima dona cook arrived. It’s not like there was household help! The patients are responsible for the cleaning and if cleaning superceded therapy, so be it. We missed out therapy sessions.
Wow. So you had to take personal responsibility for keeping your house clean and doing chores? How awful. How could that possibly help you in the real world? They definitely should have hired people to wait on you hand and foot so that you never learn how to take responsibility for yourself or how to contribute to the greater good.
I do not think the patient was complaining about doing chores, I don’t think the patient expected to be waited on hand and foot by a maid. I believe the patient was validating the fact the patients do clean the facility and the patients are excluded from the kitchen. I also appears the patient would have rather been been particpating in treatment than cleaning the facility. There was a time to clean up and that time should not have occurred during our therapy time.
When I was at NDFW, we were happy to clean, we were not happy to miss therapy, group or outside meetings in order to clean up after the cook. Just like we were not happy listening to Maurice yell at the staff and we did not like Becky screwing around with out sobriety and playing head games.
Frankly, this whole thing is hysterical! Becky, you love feeling important and look how many people sit around blogging about you all night long. Mission Accomplished!!!! You are the most important jackass in Costa Mesa! Everyone talks about you and you undoubtedly command attention when you walk in a room; in an OJ kind of way…
Becky set herself up for this. Becky will take any kind of attention she can get and negative attention is better than no attention.
Unfortunately, Becky had a CHOICE to use her position of power for good or evil and she chose to intimidate, bully and belittle everyone in her environment with her power.
This whole thing would be hysterical if he patients and staff at NDFW had CHOICES. Patients do not CHOOSE addiciton. Most patients, once the fog has lifted and they realize they are at a geographical disadvantage, they have no funds and NDFW has cut off support from their family, loose their freedom to CHOOSE to leave.
Employees who want to maintain their jobs so they can feed their families have very limited CHOICES about leaving and enduring the wrath of Becky. They aren’t able to obtain unemployment, Becky makes sure that is not an option.
The hatred for this program is palpable and it’s supposed to help women cultivate lives that are not miserable anymore. Obviously, these blogs indicate a major failure in doing so and nobody seems to be happy there. NDFW is perpetuating sickness in women who can’t afford another awful experience.
So, if you work there and have any desire to be able to look in the mirror, come together and take a stand out in the open. Don’t nod your heads, kiss ass and do whatever management says; it’s your responsibility to help the patients there… not to blog about how awful they have it when you get home at night. So in the morning, do your jobs… grow up and stop being bullied. Everyone has a choice.
How many of the patients really have choices at NDFW? Most of them are from out of State. The Prop 36 patients are court mandated (their choice is jail or treatment) The out of State patients have been lured to NDFW with false advertising and promises of treatment they will never receive. Once there, money is removed from the patients possession and families are told lies about the need to continue treatment. Where is their freedom of choice. Be clear, an addict may have made a choice to pick up a drink or use dope the first time, however, most addicts did not aspire to become addicts.
The Board has a choice to enable Flood/Wilson. Flood/Wilson have a choice to continue their reign or terror or leave that poor facility alone. The Wilder family has a choice to return NDFW to it’s intended purpose or let their name and the NDFW name continue to be dragged through the dirt. There are your choices. Make one and live with the consequences
Where is the County oversight? There is a prop 36 contract in place. The County needs to contact those prop patients and ask what happened to their EBT and WIC cards.
Where is the State oversight? Pour throught the archived files. Audit, audit, audit. Although, you probably won’t find much. I personally witnessed the Ad. Assist to Becky shredding files that were less than one year old.
The State reported Maurice shouted and swore at a child in the facility, “causing the child to become frightened and shaking;” That is child abuse. Where is CPS? Where are the mandated reporters and why didn’t you call CPS?
I pay taxes. I expect accountability. So should every other tax payer. Do you damn job!

You are a bigger idiot than anyone who blogs on this forum. Just because NDFW does not declare a profit does not mean they are not making a profit. E-mails, as in plural? Sorry, I have posted once on this forum (once would be singular, not plural.) You, on the other hand, in your attempt to defend your immoral position continue to defend unethical practices. Accusing me or anyone else who is posting of being on drugs is a lame excuse to avoid the topic at hand. Many people donate to non-profits for many reasons. One thing they all receive is a receipt for their donations. No one really knows why the board continues to support you, Becky. Does it really matter if Maurice and/or Becky are cheating on each other? Isn’t it more relevant the two of them are cheating employees and patients? Personally I don’t care what they do to each other. I will start to care when they get the hell out of California. There is no area in their lives that can withstand scrutiny. They are dishonest on every level.
Becky, Maurice, Virginia and staff- Did you not read what FURIOUS MOTHER wrote? I suppose you all are in damage control 5th gear. You will offer her to stay for free or at that so call lower rate for speacial patients, and change Maurices title for her stay, Have a meeting and yell at the CC’s for speaking out lound around the patients. The moral must be so down there. As it is you do not have much administration staff and the one’s that are there do not know your evil side just yet. And know you unblocked sites on the internet probably so Tom can check to see who is blogging so you can cut them. Your staff fears you. And that is very SAD. Virginia looks like a pisst off bull dog 95% of her time there. She sits at the window and mocks patients as they walk by. She mocks staff members also. It is so Sad that you have made this all happen. I have to admit Becky you brought NDFW out of a horrible situation but them you got way to comfortable and are now taken advantage of NDFW. Step down until this all cools off. You are just making it worse for NDFW and brining the reputation down with you. How many new patients do you have set up? Are you on admissions butt to briing in more patients, poor admissions person, what about Marketing? Is Kim and her assistant spending more money to TRY to bring in more patients to NDFW? What about Development? Is Arlene still planning more charity events that Nobody will attend. Although I did see that you have a breakfast coming soon and it is more of an appriciation breakfast than a ASKING. Are you scared to ASK in a time like this? We should all attend this breakfast in Corona del Mar. Can you give us the date we can all be there and speak our minds or even maybe pass out articles of the States finding to everybody entering the place. Hmmmm any more idea people? Any way. This is such a bad situation you have put NDFW in when they have such a great Mission.

We went to lunch the yesterday and it was uncomfortable. Virginia coordiante who should go. A few of us went to a local buffet and I was hoping nobody would bring work up. I sat there with the two face Virginia who talks behind everyone backs. 3 months ago she always used racsist remarks about one of the employee that was there and yesterday she acted like she truly cared for this person. Becky was going to join us and I prayed she would change her mind. A contract employee who is trying to help raise money for NDFW showed up and she could not go she needed to stay and meet with him and plan on who to ask money from. The place is so uncomfortable to work at. New employees have no clue on what is going on. and most employees are new. It is not a happy place anymore. Moral is down and when we have employee appriciation luncheons they are so boring and just a waste for us. Maybe not for Virginia because she does not have a car and free food is always good for her. She orders what she wants. I hear her asking employees “I’m not a bad boss am I?” Of course employees say “No, your great boss.” We have to say that as this is our job and I need it at this time. Fact: Work is uncomfortable I keep busy so my day flies by, Fact: Moral is very low, Fact: I need my job, so I will lay low, Fact: Becky is there all day long looking like a lost dog. Fact: There is food in the dining area but it is only fruit and trail mix and yogurt no real food like stuff for sandwiches. They leave pitcher of water and tea or a juice for the patients to drink throughout the day and of course decaf coffee. Fact: Virginia is still rude and back stabbing, Fact: They are in Damage control mode, Fact: Company BBQ is coming up and we as employees have spoke about it and we MUST go if we want to keep our job. Fact: Virginia knows way to many of Becky’s secrets that she will always have a job at NDFW. Fact: We lost alot of GREAT employees because of the management team. Fact: Marketing manager Kim needs to treat us with respect , She always had a problem with treating former employees with respect and I will not tolerate her crap. I don’t even thinks she can work a computer that is why she has a assistant. I remeber catching her and Victoria taling about a former employee and they looked like they were caught stealing. So on that note we all work there cause we need our jobs. We put up with Becky, Virginia, Kim and Maurice and Victoria because we have to. Top it off Jen and Jenette will be back from maternity leave soon and that is going to be even worse. Maybe they will be smart and not come back. I am an uncomfortable employee but need to stay here untl something better comes along. Plus i really care for t he patients here. Becky, get your self a new executive officer (Virginia). I have so many complaints on her and it is not right that I have to write her up and then give it to her. Do you not see that that is UNETHICAL? I need to get to work now. I’m sure Becky will call a meeting and address this to see who has a guilty face in the meeting.
Current NDFW Employee, I would not have written that post if I was you. When they find out that you wrote this post they will start their 30 day plan. They will not fire you immediately but they will start the planning process to get rid of your job. Does restructuring sound familiar? Well, your job will still be there but the title and qualifications will be different, so you can just kiss the job as you now know it bye bye. You should know by now that is the way its done at NDFW. The good thing is that there are better facilities close by that you can work at. Start asking HR to see you personal file because after you leave, they will start padding your file with write ups from anyone who they can get to sign a piece of paper. It does not have to be true, but it will prove that you are a disgruntled employee. Sounds familiar, unethical and illegal, right? Word on the street is that there was only ONE disgruntled employee (you know her name) who did not like Becky who made all of this terrible stuff happen. Believe it or not, there are alot of professionals who believe this and that is what they are using to justify why they are still doing business and in business with Becky. This includes board members. Look at their names. There are board members who hold licenses that are still on the board. Since these board members hold licenses, you may want to start making ethical complaints to their licensing boards. Board members can and should also be held responsible for what happens there. Also, you may want to make ethical complaints to CARF since Becky works for them and that accrediation is on their website. There is no way that NDFW can be providing good treatment with so many people upset, a board that is mute and blind to all complaints, and an alleged harrasser as Clinical Director. This is California so someone out there needs to be writing a script for this. When you go to pitch your story, show them these posts and the interest that it is still getting. Unfortunately, this drama is not having a happy ending. The addicts out here are still suffering and NDFW is not the place to send them right now.
Rebecca, you are an embarassment and disgrace to the entire addiction field. My companies and treatment centers want nothing to do with you, New Directions, or anyone who is dense enough to affiliate themselves with you. Get help or retire.
Becky, I agree with AIS member. You insult our intelligence by telling us that this is all one disgruntled employee. You keep blaming your former employee, but we all an see that this is not the work of one person. There is too much pain here - and nothing that she said in her statements was false. As an owner and operator of a treatment center myself, I welcome feedback from my employees. It is how I make my program better and provide my residents the care that they deserve. You keep saying that this is the work of one person, but I am insulted that you think I am so foolish to believe you. It sounds like the therapist that you fired was doing the right thing by standing up for their rights. How stupid do you think we are?
The reports say that she called YOUR OWN Board of Directors and nothing happened. So she gave YOU a chance Becky, and you tried to silence her and cover it up. Other postings on these blogs have said that New Directions has an employee turnover of 90%. After reading all of these hurting and angry people, I believe it is probably greater than 90%. Becky - what have you done?
People have said that you are in denial. You know what? I BELIEVE THEM! The facts speak loud and clear - Becky - you are ill my dear. You need to get help. There is no shame in getting help. You have a community that will support you and encourage you if you choose to follow that path. However, if you do NOT choose that path, what I can guarantee is this: you will be choosing a path of isolation. Those of us who are in this field can very clearly see your disease, and your husbands disease, all layed out for us on these four blog sites. I do not expect you to see it because YOU ARE ILL. It’s called DENIAL.
Becky, you have a choice - get help and become a stronger person and move forward in your life.
If you choose not to, I will need to protect my company, my associates, and my reputation. What this means is that I will no longer associate myself with you, and anyone who chooses to affiliate themselves with you will be cut off from myself and from my associations as well. They will not receive any referalls, donations, grants, nor monetary support. All advertising for their facilities will be taken off of our websites, brochures, etc. That is just the beginning. I must be firm about this - but I know how deadly this disease is as I have lost a loved one to it - which is why I must be firm with you. I will not loose what has taken me a lifetime to build.
The choice is yours Becky. So far, your choices have been very poor and very public. We are all watching and hoping you make the right one.

From an objective point of view, most of the allegations and complaints posted are absolutely accurate. I have no issue with NDFW or management or the board. I am not a disgruntled employee. In fact, I am grateful for the lessons I learned at NDFW. Working at NDFW also makes me appreciate my current position so much more!
I worked at NDFW several years ago. The place was fueled by paranoia, funded by the ignorant and managed in a cruel and dismissive manner by a careless team of misfits. It simply felt like a bad fit for my style, credentials and training. NDFW and I were incompatible. I left for a more welcoming environment because that is what I wanted not because I was disgruntled. I currently work for a terrific treatment center that puts the Client first. We, too, have County contracts and not once have failed a County audit and not once have we had a complaint by staff or patients submitted to State authorities. We employ 52 individuals and serve 125 Clients on an inpatient basis. Do we make mistakes? Absolutely. Do we hold ourselves accountable? Completey! The difference is when a Client or an employee has a concern, it is addressed immediately. Not dismissed, covered up or denied.
A hostile work environment does not make for a healthy treatment center.
The reason that the main food storage is locked after well afetr dinner is because many women have cross addictions which are then cross referenced to Overeaters Anonymous. Although the main pantry is closed late at night, and through the middle of the night. As mentioned above snacks and drinks are ALWAYS available. I know this as Gospel because I am a former patient… I lived the generous food experience at NDFW. Don’t believe the false complaining. Just like all of the negitive posts… they are just trying to stur up rumors…

The truth is there is more anorexia and bulimia than overeating at NDFW. When I was there, Overeaters Anonymous was NEVER mentioned. Really, think about it, how many overweight drug addicts go to treatment? Great excuse for locking up the food. The snack cabinet is really beautiful, however, the snacks were questionable. Delicious, hardly! Generally speaking, Costco frozen lasagna was very filling, however, I was never comfortable eating food at NDFW since some of the food was paid for by Prop 36 paients EBT and WIC money.
By the way, “NDFW truth” stir is not spelled stur. Can you spell FRAUD? No? How about INCARCERATION. Let me make it easy for you. Can you spell JAIL? You are a managment planted idiot poster!
Here is my question… Even if it all blow’s over and are able to get through the drama unscathed (legally and financially), why would you stay??? Realistically, this is not a conspiracy to sabotage a dinky treatment center and make you a scapegoat for no reason, that would be genuinely evil and there is no logic to it! That’s psychotic thinking! Clearly your help is not helpful. if so many people feel so strongly that you have hurt them, shouldn’t that be the most compelling item on your agenda; not insisting you have turned the lives of so many women around, and trying to convince everyone to believe every single person who takes issue with you has problems? I think it is safe to say you are not problem-free at the moment, yourself! At least stop pretending this away because mistreatment only leads to a growing and palpable hatred that you are subjecting yourself to. Don’t you have any shame?!! These people feel you have drowned them in your own spit… so any hope that you are going to live this down is ridiculous. These blogs are felonious and you will be sited for subjecting NDFW and the current patients harm with perpetuating negativity. Becky Flood is a wonderful person; and this has really gone too far. I am a proud member of the board and don’t need the advise, nor tall tales from the unfortunate and potentially thriving women I spend money to help, believe in and give a sense of self-worth to. I have lost my patience and will not allow Becky to be demonized anymore if i have anything to do with it.
To late not to let becky be deonized. She is a demon already. What about us employees that still work there? Of course she and Virginia and Maurice are putting up there front and trying really hard to be bice to us during this time of damage control. I lost friends that worked here and were great employees with a heart for this mission. I had a ex employee friend that asked for a raise and becky told her NO. She worked her ass of f for this place. Another friend needed help and she did not get any. Not fair is it? Becky making 150,000 a year while my co-workers work their asses off for 14.00 an hour. I am looking for work because i know my time here is almost up. I plan to get an attorney and sue if I am treated the way my ex co-workers were. I wish the Board of Directors would listen to the employees that have left. We employees will not talk, not while we are still employees at NDFW. We will go to work and do our job and go home. Carol, Sally, Dan, Amir you are only hearing oneside…Becky’s side. How about the ex employees side. They might just suprise you with the proof that they have.
I would like to hear what the board(s) — both b/c there are two — think about all this and why they haven’t gotten rid of Becky or Maurice?? Forget about defending Becky and Maurice on these blogs — how do you, board members, say these two are innocent when the state findings indicate the exact opposite?? And why are you SO invested in defending Becky and Maurice?? Let them go! You’ll feel relief immediately and wonder why you wasted so much time and energy getting drained with all this drama when all you had to do is cut your ties. You act like Becky and Maurice are God and irreplaceable. BELIEVE me, they have no idea what they are doing over there — that’s obvious. Who cares if you or anyone else thinks they’re innocent or guilty — the more important issue in my mind is their inability to run a treatment center effectively and ethically. You’re wasting all your time and energy on two dead-end executives that are creating a dead-end rehab. I stopped referring there over a year ago, when the women I referred there called me complaining specifically about Maurice and Becky. And I agree — Becky and Maurice were always nice to me — but that doesn’t excuse their behavior or mean that they are competent to be in charge of a rehab center. Let them go with a smile on your face, thanking them for how nice they’ve been to you and their wonderful heart for wanting to help these women. Becky Flood might be a wonderful person, but is just not cut out to CEO a nonprofit rehab center.

I remember what a great job Becky did when she initially arrived at NDFw. She was a power house and she did clean the place up! As for running NDFW long term? No. She does not have what it takes. No generosity of spirit, no tact and no people skills. I, too, have interacted with her for years and she has been polite to me. Unfortunately, patients and staff consistently tell me she is inappropriate. I do not refer to NDFW nor do I interact with the facility on any level as I am not willing to have my reputation tainted by the management at NDFW. So, it makes sense. Thank her for her help and let her go. After all, when the carpet cleaner cleans your rugs, they don’t hang around once their job is done, do they? It’s time for Becky to move on an work her clean up magic elsewhere.
Yes, it’s time for her to go. I stopped referring to them as well. Becky has always been nice to my face, however after hearing some things from my referals that caused me to become concerned, I stopped sending my referrals there. I do not think she has what it takes to be in this business any longer, especially comanaging with her husband.
Becky Flood and Maurice Wilson’s behavior has not been examplary… we know that and have taken action by providing them one opportunity to rectify their mistakes and redeem themselves. I know that they are flawed, but their hearts are in the right place. Becky is a woman who often times displays her passion in a way that is misinterpreted. She cares so very much for this cause, it tends to get the best of her and overwhelmes her. We have specifically
recommeneded she take a momentary step back from her deep emotional connection to staff and patients and examine her behavior in order to express her love accurately in the future. Make no mistake, Becky Flood is a woman whio has dedicated her life to improving and uplifting the spirits of women everywhere. She has self sacrificed in the interest of patients above and beyond expectations (I have been a witness to this) more then anybody else in the treatment community of America. Maurice Wilson, a spiritual and pensive academic, is not familiar with hearing the stories day in and day out of traumatized women. While listening to their stories, his anger towards their predators came out, however there was never a day Maurice was unclear about where his rage was directed. He is too a passionate advocate for the patients.
They are imperfect as we all are. But most management at treatment centers do not have the true emotional investment in the lives of thoses patients who walk in and out of the doors in the facilities for which they oversee. It is that pure devotion, that has given the board of directors, on the behalf of whom I am speaking… a definitve answer about whether or not they are fit to continue their mission at NDFW. If they continue to make these minor mistakes, we guarantee, the patients and staff will not be overlooked… they will be dismissed. At this time, I ask you all to clean the slate and move on to a new and better time with Maurice and Becky. They have also asked me to relay that message personally. I often ask myself about what God’s will is vs. my own, and it is not my will that has exonerated them in the eyes of the law. The board feels confident in the justice system, God and Maurice and Becky.

Morningside just dumped New Directions for Women also know as New Ways to Take Advantage of Women.
There is no more affiliation between the two facilities. I would love to hear Morningside’s explaination for the break up of the two facilities! It would be interesting to hear the lies NDFW spins about the break up, too.

Well, interesting. I’ll weigh in as someone who was ripped off by Morningside when Becky was presiding. Morningside is every bit the ripoff that NDFW is. While there, I was told by other clients that several clients were contacting their attorneys and they thought the place wasn’t as they were led to believe. Morningside lied to me and I am not going to forget it. Things have not been good for me (worse) since my experience there. I feel sorry for the poor people who are trapped there due to the lies.
As a patient who was thrown out of morningside about 2 months ago, I can atest that Morningside left me in as bad of shape if not worse than when I arrived. My family is not wealty, and it took a lot for them to get me their. I was suckered by a slick talking former felon DG. The basic formula was give Morningside 30,000.00, and we,ll give you a ride to an AA meeting. They threw all my belongings on the side of the road, while I was 3000 miles from home. You get them to tell me why. A terrible experience there. The sober community however are wonderful in Orange county. I guess we live and learn but I,m resentful and angry.
It seems obvious that there are a few defenders of Flood/Wilson here. It also seems obvious that they need to go due to the damage inflicted.
As for me, I’ll deal with the damage caused to me in my own way. But trust me, damage it was. It didn’t need to be this way at all. But greed and lies always lead to damage.
I would like to believe in redemption, and I hope rehabilitation is possible in some cases. But from my years of experience as a licensed marriage and family therapist, and behavioral analyst, seeing the evidence, the statistics and the data, I cannot place more faith in what I would like to be true thatn what I know is reality. What I mean by this is that I am much less interested in giving a convicted financially motivated and exploitive CEO and her sexually exploitive husband/perpetrator a second chance than in giving an innocent potential victim a first chance.
By the Board giving them “a second chance” it is obvious that this Board is inept, ignorant, incompetent, and corrupt. We need to enforce the laws we already have on the books and bring back some common sense, based more on reality than on sentiment. What I think our society needs more than anything else today is a sense of personal responsibility for what we do. From what I see, hear and read, no one is responsible anymore. This could not be more obvious in this case. There’s always some factor in a person’s life or background to excuse him. How convenient to have attorneys on the Board to jump in and rescue Becky from her devious behavior.
There is a price to the passage through life and regardless of what’s happened to each of us in the past, part of that price is responsibility for our actions in the present. Until Rebecca Flood ceases to be rescued from her cunning, manipulative and deviant behavior that puts society in harms way, she will continue to be a danger to all. And how eloquent of her to play the Board like a fiddle. Well done Flood, well done. You are a true sociopath through and through.

Becky still hasn’t learned her lesson even after leaving Seabrook House, but then again she learned from the best of them. Seabrook House is having their fair share of problems as well. Yes, SBH was one of their most biggest referral sources, but after reading all of this I would not even send my enemy there.
Ole Maurice crashed into the home I was living in at Morningside one night early May about 3am, says is everything allright in here Mr Peele. I,m like who the hell are you, is this a holdup. He never identified to me who he was, just ran all through the house looking for 2 clients who had relapsed next door, now I had just got out of Pat Moore 3 or 4 days earlier . Him and that ole crook Gates spent all night chasing one client that they let walk away. Funny part was when Maurice tried to leave about 530am his battery was dead had to call a tow truck for his unit, little did I know he was a CEO, or whatever the hell his title is . I consider his title to be DUMMY. I never saw a human being look under a couch 2 inches off the ground , looking for bodies. They messed me up good.
i hated being there. they fired my therapist and told us that she quit. we were so upset. theydon’t have any licensed therapists now. the place is a disaster. i left early but they kept my money. there is no treatment there - only crafts and smoking.
